  1. Thank you! To make it really glossy, I waited quite a while for the lacquer to dry. I then used the Micro-mesh sanding pads followed with 3M 2 and 3 polish system. Alot of elbow grease!
  2. Kevin, haven't you made some crazy glossy toy trucks? What did you use on them? I have used Osmo gloss which gives a nice finish. Make sure you wipe off the first two layers really well, then I put in a very thin final layer....there is a good article on fine woodworking in 2017 on how a guy did it on a walnut table top. I think it was the July issue...
  3. Thank you for such kind words. I have always loved your work. I would love to see a picture of your piano music box if you still have it. Thank you again!
  4. Charlie, thank you... Coming from you that is quite the compliment!....Veneer is tricky because they seem to vary in thickness so some fit great and others not so much.... especially when you are trying to fill in for the size of the wood that was removed by the kerf of the saw blade. It was a crazy idea anyway. Thank you again.
  5. So this I believe was meant to go on glass. I have done glass gilding with real gold leaf. I think this was the imitation stuff. Anyway, not meant for wood. It didn't really want to stay....would recommend sanding the wood to probably 800 grit before applying it. I bought the stuff awhile back...can't remember where I purchased it. This was pre-cut for this design...You use a small wooden tool to burnish it on. Thanks again!
  6. Jerry, thank you! My daughter also loves music boxes...ever since she was a little kid. I would love to know the name of the book. I hope to make more of them. Thanks again!
  7. Thank you! Yes, it seemed to take forever. I made a prototype first with a lot of boo-boos but made quite a few corrections for this one. Thanks again.
  8. Thank you. I will be giving it to her this Saturday. My husband bought a necklace to go in it. I do hope she likes it.
  9. Very nice....So Charlie do you have any tattoos?
  10. Thank you! I used about every machine in my shop to make it.
  11. Thank you! None of it is inlay. The music notes on the front of the box is gold leaf burnished on the wood directly and then finished over that. A bit risky so next time I will figure out a way to scroll saw it and fill it with gold epoxy.
  12. This is for my daughter's graduation. My apologies for the long read....It certainly took me multiple tries and a long time to create this. I used maple and walnut for the keys with black wood veneer turned sideways (the keys are 5/8 thick). The mahogany and walnut stripes are also 5/8 and were stack-cut on the Hawk G4 so the pieces could fit together when I separated them. I also used the veneer turned sideways to take up the kurf.... I made the ornament on top and the ones inside the box on my EX 21. I also cut a thin piece of walnut for the under side of the top since I didn't want the piano keys to show when you open it.. I polished it to a high gloss. The bottom was all walnut and I purple floxed the inside. The music box was a challenge since it came out of an antique powder box. 20240605_140234.mp4
  13. Pretty darn awesome! I also love the barnwood! Is that the same wood (from the same barn) your daughter had in her wedding?
  14. Charlie, nice shop! I like how you have Theme's for your work....gotta love those cowboys!
  15. Nice work. Welcome to the forum!
  16. Just saw the G4 saw you posted. Good price but the stand does look a bit funky but the saw looks pretty good. Pretty far drive. I would keep looking especially since you have to get a new range. But you do make a good BBQ...you could use that for a while!
  17. Wow Barb you out did yourself on this one. Fine work!
  18. Frank, that is one pretty darn cool cat! great creativity!
  19. Sorry Paul for the late response. I payed $350 I think for mine. But she lived on the Washington Coast which most folks would find quite a drive to get there. I was going to Seattle anyway and got lucky that it was a nice day in December. I really do like the saw it seems to cut through thicker wood better than my EX 21. I still like the EX too though.
  20. That is pretty cool!
  21. That one turned out really nice! Great work as always!!
  22. Excellent work! I really like the layering that you did!
  23. Wow, I really liked the Viking Guy but now I am unsure which one I like better. You did a beautiful job on the girl. Well done!
  24. Looks really ornate! Yery pretty and I liked the way you used the wood. Are you going to put shelves in too?
  25. Paul, Wow, that G4 is really pricey compared to what I paid. There was one in MT a while back but I don't see it there anymore. I will start looking over here as well and let you know if I find one.
