  1. Welcome Norm. Your saws tell your scroll story and you must have had others before these. So post a few pictures to give us an idea what all you scroll. Please tour the Village and stop in the Coffee House in the mornings. And let us know you enjoyed a cup of brew with us. Larry
  2. First, my dogs name is Paddington. I just picked a name that seemed like it worked. Big Red has to be the dog but he doesn't play cribbage.
  3. Beautiful work and a great choice of wood. That will display very well. Larry
  4. I have always liked these patterns. They are challenging. You did a beautiful job. Thumbs up. Larry
  5. Hey Rob, Good Day to you. Is it, " You piqued my curiosity " or " You peaked my curiosity " but I know it is not " You peek my curiosity " Anyway, I'm curious, Tell me what you learned. Maybe I will learn something or maybe I will feel good that you learned from my scroll.
  6. You better give your Mom a big hug
  7. Hey, and to me they are the perfect size. Grandsons are good for something
  8. Semper Fidelis! First and formost, God Bless you for your service. * For scroll saws, cheap "Does Not Cut It". Fact and pun intended. Dewalt is an excellent saw in its price range. You should be happy with it. * Breaking blades goes with the territory. Quite common. Blades wear thin(ner), heat up, you take a turn too sharp and new sawers push too much. The Village is better than a magazine. Lots of patterns and more every day. Ask a question, it will be answered. You can also do a searches on a question 'cause may ahve already been asked. Oh Yes, there is KP duty at the Coffee House. You gotta make coffee and tea sometimes. Salute from Larry
  9. My thoughts exactly. The work, skill and beauty make them worth the price.
  10. Thank you everyone! And Danny, thank you for making the pattern. I enjoy making the cribbage boards. I'd like to scroll a centerfold cribbage board for the men b-u-t I think my wife would put the kibash to that idea... I still might sneak one in.
  11. Ok Rusty, Rule #1 Show picture Otherwise all I can say is, ' Sounds like what you need. ' Larry
  12. Cribbage pattern by Wilson Woodworks (Danny) Hunting with My Master by Grampa (Paul) Thank you Danny and Paul. Golly, I like this. Hunting with Big Red during the day and playing cribbage at night. The board is 10 3/4" wide by 12" long. The wood is Cherry luaun with a pine backer. The finish is lacquer.
  13. You and the pattern maker did an excellent job. That is a beauty.
  14. The sawmill where you got your lumber may have a meter for reading the moisture. Take a board and ask them to check it The one year is a "best guess". Again, checking by meter should be done. Check around. someone has one and it only takes about a minute.
  15. Very good Keith. I like the way it is designed for the letters to fit.

Good job cutting that Keith. Yepper, you drilled that one perfect.
  17. You did good Dan... The Red Oak shows charactor. SOmebody is going to like that a lot.
  18. Oh no, knitting? You'd go batty over night. Have that yarn,,,speaking of yarns. What's the end of the your story about "I made two but they only lasted two days but gotta make more."
  19. I'm simple, just use any type black paint on a backer board. You only need to paint the part of the backer that will be exposed. For most items like this deer head, you do not need to be a perfectionist for the black for the backer. The cuts are small so again just a little black will do it. IMHO Chet, What Dan said is correct. I call them bridges or anchors. Before you make a cut be sure there is adequate support. I have cut this pattern a few times and I think it is a great learning experience. I grade it moderate. Your blade choice is always important. Experiment if you have a variety of blades. Blade choice may change depending on wood type and thickness.
  20. Dan, you did good!!! Oak and walnut...some has bark. I love bark on a piece of scroll work. Did you figure out your water problem?
  21. Chet, Welcome to Scroll Saw Village. As a cabinette maker, it seems obvious you have all the tools and wood you would need. Scrolling can be almost as satisfying as building model aircraft. Actually, to me, it's addicting. Hey, and thank you for showing us a picture of that beautiful model. Thats what we like, pictures and questions. Bring 'em on. Take a tour and visit the Coffee Shop daily.
  22. I love vases, bowls and baskets. Beautiful vase. You did a great job. The shaking part I understand since I shake sometimes too. I
  23. Answer 1) I have two, a Sears and a Shop-Vac. The Sears nozzels are less than desireable, The Shop-vac sometimes blows out dust. (Yes, I clean it) Answer 2) They do ok Answer 3) If I had $$$ I'd do a search... I don't know Answer 4) Have a slated floor for the sawdust and wood chips fall thru into a bin.
  24. Dan, thank you, thank you...a little goose bump chills there.
  25. Hans, thank you very much. This is a compliment that makes my day.
