  1. James ole pal, good buddy. Welcome !! When I started scrolling I didn't know about the Village or any other scrollers. I just jumped in. You have an advantage and by starting here. I'm a proponent of searching. There is a search panel in the upper right. Start in General Scroll Sawing and enter "blades for new scrollers". See what comes up. Whatever you search for most likely has been covered a time or two. Wood thickness is by choice but generally not more than 3/4 inch. Many scrollers use Baltic Birch plywood (stackable). Starter patterns are your choice, again, do a search in Patterns and New pattern anouncement,,, etc. We love to see especially the first one. Larry
  2. I have a lot of old barn wood that is about 100years old. Don't use it much but when I do I always try to 'age' the cuts. Sometimes I do OK. Any advice on how to color or NOT to color? THanks All
  3. Kevin, you are so unique in all you do. Thats all I have to say!
  4. Hi Terry, Glad you joined us. I'm sure Kevin is glad to have someone from Florida join him. 20 years scrolling puts you in the "Old Time Scrollers Club." If there is one Show us your work if you don't mind. Larry
  5. Drill away Rusty. Nice saw and at a good price.
  6. That is a very nice vase Dick. The wood frame and base are beautiful wood. I had to move the flowers to see the top wood. Maybe it's Tulip. Larry PS: Dick, just to let you know it looks like it's a 'wooden' vase
  7. Dan, Beautiful job on the card holders. They are almost as nice as your cards. Good job! Larry
  8. Now thats a trip to look at that Camero. Looks like it's the car that just won top prize in a show. Super job Kevin. Larry
  9. Great job cutting that cat!!
  10. Marg, If you are cutting from the same ply board and not having a problem. I would analyize the problem piece by taking it apart, Actually, I think it was that third cup of coffee you had. Larry
  11. Hey bOB, Glad you found us. You can't blame the saw for your mistakes. You got a good one. I hang most of my mistakes on the side of my garage. SInce 2010, you should have mastered and completed something. Give us a show. WE like to oooooh and aaaah. Really am glad you're here. Larry
  12. That's a well cut sign. Good job.
  13. Jim, That is tops. Not just a beautiful job but a great pattern. Thank you. Larry
  14. Hey Phantom Cross Maker, just to finish the dimension discription of this cross of yours: A guess that they are 8" tall x 5" wide and both crosses are 1/4" thick. Call me the " Phantom Cross Maker CopyCat " Thanks Roly !!
  15. Richie's words are worth repeating, 'Roly they look great, thanks for sharing.' I like the cross on the cross, the idea to make a cross from new wood and especially sharing the idea. Larry
  16. I posted something I found in a search and I should have caught the shank and drill size bit. Sorry about that, please excuse my mistake in posting the above. Larry
  17. This info comes from 'Mini drill tool site: the following sizes:#80 (.0135") #70 (.0280") #71 (.0260") #61 (.0390") ... fit your hand drill, drill press your Dremel and Foredom tool with a 1/8" collet.
  18. Welcome !
  19. Call Mike at the Flying Dutchman and ask him. He should be able to answer that.
  20. Yes, I enjoy baskets and yours is a nice one.
  21. Roly tells it right. Spackle and fill in any holes then sand your wood, wipe down, apply a primer and let it dry thoroughly. Then, you are ready to paint! Tip: The kind of primer you use should match the kind of paint you use: latex primers go with latex paints, and oil-based primers go with oil-based paints.
  22. Dan, That will finish out just beautiful. Very nice cutting. Mom will display that in a special place. Larry
  23. Great job. I love the old car scroll cuts.
  24. LOL...Yepper, I got six I want to cut and the patterns ain't made yet. Yes sir, I also have three going that have to be done 'next' !!!!!! and there are those " I just have to cut for me "
  25. I like to promote doing searches in SSV. Many questions and subjects have been addressed in the past. If you want additional information or just curious... there is a search panel in each section of SSV. I have no answer for you except 'search' in General Scroll Sawing for "selling portraits" selling scrollwork, selling, how to sell my stuff. Oh, and if you find an answer, let me know please. Larry
