Popular Post Scrappile Posted October 23, 2025 Popular Post Report Posted October 23, 2025 Just took this off my saw this evening. Did some frizzy clean up and sanding. No finished applied yet. It is a Charles Dearing pattern. 1/2" oak. Mainly used small spiral blade #2/0 Pegas, #3/0 and #1 Flying Dutchman. One of the reasons I chose to cut it was I wanted got get practice with spiral blade again, I have not use them much over the past couple years. Yep, I still like them. I also like to cut trees. danny, Wilson142, Wichman and 26 others 23 1 5 Quote

ChelCass Posted October 23, 2025 Report Posted October 23, 2025 What a great pattern and a even better cutting of the pattern. The veining in the tree trunk and branches is absolute beautiful. Best I have ever seen. Kudos! danny and Scrappile 1 1 Quote

Dak0ta52 Posted October 23, 2025 Report Posted October 23, 2025 Very nicely done, Paul. That looks like it was cut into White Oak. Can you imagine trying to cut that pattern in Pine? Especially with small spirals. You would be dancing all around the grain. And yes, I believe spirals are my favorite but I typically like very detailed patterns with a lot of cuts such as this one. barb.j.enders and Scrappile 1 1 Quote

heppnerguy Posted October 25, 2025 Report Posted October 25, 2025 Paul like you, I too enjoy the spiral blades. I really got to where I wanted to learn them when I was at your house and saw all your wonderful projects made with the spiral blade. I now like them the very best and it really did not take me that long to learn. It was very apparent to me that really delicate fret work is crying for the spiral and it saves a lot, and I mean a lot, of worry about possibly braking some delicate pieces when one is cutting. They are so much quicker and way easier on the extremely delicate fret. Thank you for that, my friend. You taught me well just by letting me look through some of your very well done fret work.
