    Welcome to The Village, Tim! My philosophy is if your saw works for you you have the right saw. Cheaper saws, generally speaking, tend to have more problems and don't last as long. If you try a a higher quality saw you will begin to see some advantages like top-feed versus bottom-feed, amount of vibration, throat depth, table size, and type of blade clamps. And we'd love to see pictures of you bowls and other turned items. Cheers!

    About 2 months ago I paid almost $9 for one 2x4 by 8 feet. I checked yesterday and the price was down to $3.64. Plywood seems a little better too.

    I tried a fence many years ago with marginal results. I prefer to drive the straight line without a fence.

    Just remember... You get what you pay for. It's only $10 cheaper than Onieda so check the specs to see which is the better deal. Also, Dewalt makes one that sells for $42 that may be made in China.

    If you are on Facebook you can message the guy selling the one that kmmcrafts mentioned. Ask if he has the manual for it and if he would be willing to sell it to you. Worth a shot.

    You could try contacting Rick Hutcherson. He has a collection of scroll saws from vintage to modern. Also, check under the lever for a bolt or screw. It seems I've seen things made to lift the lever, adjust a screw, the close the lever. Good luck! Aren't older tools with no manuals fun?

    First... Beautiful piece! My attempt to answer your question. Ever cut you make you lose a small amount of wood due to the thickness of the blade. It sounds like your work was cut from one piece of wood as segmentation. When you piece them all together you can lose a lot from the kerf. In intarsia, the pieces are mostly cut individually to the exact size or very slightly larger, then sanded to fit perfectly. My experience with intarsia is to cut a few pieces the fit them together. Then cut an adjacent piece and sand to fit. Then keep repeating. In my little brain it makes sense, I hope it makes sense to you.

    No hearing aids but I have IsoTunes ear buds. 87dB noise reduction. They work great for me. I use noisy equipment at work and these do great.
