  1. I'm sure she will be even happier about buying you the saw when she sees this wooden portrait of herself. Really nice job. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Looks like a handy solution. and nice work on the plaque too Dick heppnerguy
  3. I placed an add for state plaques of your choice and got several orders. I did not get a photo of a couple of them but here are the ones that I did remember to photograph. It was a fun venture and I am going to run the adds through December. However I am leaving this week for the entire month of November so my shop will be closed. I will repost my add when I return and see if anything else transpires when I get back. some were a little challenging but I did not have any breakage occur. That I am happy about. I hope to pick up some new customers from this sale as things have been pretty slow for me here in Arizona. The most difficult one was the Maine plaque and my favorite one is the Indiana plaque. Many thanks to Sam Custodio for the fun state designs. Dick heppnerguy
  4. very nicely done... keep up the good work. One never stops learning....I have been cutting for many years and I learned a big lesson just yesterday Dick heppnerguy
  5. Nice job good clean cuts, good finish and cute as can be Dick heppnerguy
  6. Our new friends here in Arizona are from the Seattle area and only returned here about a month ago. They are getting up their in age and have been doing the snowbird thing for about 17 years of so. Because their health is failing and traveling becomes too much, as is their second house to take care of, they sold their house last week and will be going back to Seattle in December. I decided this nice pattern of Sam Custodio's would make a perfect going away gift and something they can enjoy back in Washington State, so I cut it for them and gave it to them last night. My hope is.... when they look at it, they will think of Sharon and I and perhaps make one more trip to Arizona and stay with us for a couple of winter weeks, sometime. Dick heppnerguy
  7. Be sure and show us the finished project. So curious about how it will look in it's finality. It is really important to do things for and with the family even when it is not something you want to do. I agree with the television thing. My wife loves to watch tv and that drives me into my shop. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Great piece.. You make it sound like an easy frame. but for me, the simplest frame are always an extreme challenge. I really like your work on this one Dick heppnerguy
  9. whoa.. that is one mean looking guy. Very nice job making and finishing. If I were into dragons, I know I would have to do that one too Dick heppnerguy
  10. Does not look very difficult to cut but it is rather mind boggling to look at and it does look like it might be a tough cut to the eye. I will have to give this one a go Dick heppnerguy
  11. You and both know that you do better work with cataracts then I am capable with my Excalibur saws, a magnified light, and all the efforts combined, but I do have a small advantage right now because you can not use your saw, so that helps me in the point category for a small amount of time. I need to call you tomorrow. We have not talked for a little while and I am only about 10 days away from going to Heppner, then I can come up to your house again and bore you to death once more. Dick
  12. MY granddaughter has a border collie that looks just like this one. I had to cut it for her and we are going to give it to her as a gift at her wedding shower. She is so in love with her dogs and takes them with her often. They ride on the back of her flat bed pickup truck. They are working cow dogs and also extremely well trained. I loved cutting this one for her. I know she will like it a lot. This is a pattern made be Gayle and posted in The Scroller Café. Dick heppnerguy
  13. So sorry to hear this. I was just thinking about them this morning and knowing I need to make an effort at sending them a message. I corresponded with Homer quite often buy had not done so for some time and thought I should do this today and I see this post. How sad, He was a really nice guy. Hurts to read this post. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Funny. I do that very thing and it just does not work for me.. I will try again and see if it takes. I can do it on other sites with no problem but here....it hasn't worked for me. I am going to try and cut and paste another link, right here and now and see if it takes. My guess is because I am doing it now, it probably will work and I will look like an idiot.. but what the heck, maybe I am anyway. here goes http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/ It worked but I did have to go to the 'link' icon to make it work,, Now I know I can do it.. I have never noticed the link icon before on any other site. Thanks for the help. Dick,,,, the idiot heppnerguy
  15. nice piece, Katie, and the finish makes it look like a cast metal item. How did you do the finish on it? Just curious. Your work is always really unique and interesting Dick heppnerguy
  16. When I post something and I want to include the link, I can not get it to let me copy and paste it. What is the secret here? I have tried several times with no success Dick heppnerguy
  17. love your story.. When the little brother outsmarts the older ones. I had a guy in my Army squad that used to loan money. He set his fee pretty high but to make sure he got his money, he would demand they give him some collateral item that was worth a lot more then the borrowed money. He would give them one day after pay day to pay him back and then he would sell the collateral item for what was owed him. It worked really well, as I have no doubt he would have sold the item as he said he would but I do not remember ever hearing of him having to do so. Dick heppnerguy
  18. my thought also. I was looking for the wheel locks on the casters and saw none.. Let's see what Rocky has to say about that Dick heppnerguy
  19. www.grizzly.com is selling the DeWalt scroll saw for under $400 including free shipping. Anyone looking to upgrade to DeWalt or adding a good 2nd saw will want to check this out before this price is no longer offered Dick heppnerguy
  20. I think you would quickly become one of the best intarsia people around if you once gave it a try. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Go make it for her Rocky. She would love you for it. Something to use the wood I sent to you awhile back Dick heppnerguy
  22. not that good but thanks for the vote of confidence. I will do this one again some time and use a better pattern, which I own and did not use here. Not sure what I was thinking Dick heppnerguy
  23. glad you are going to some day give this a try. I know you will do well. I am afraid mine needed a little more attention but I have a really poor pattern that I used instead of going to the correct one, which I also had. but I needed to give it a go anyway Dick heppnerguy
  24. I have had this one on my to do list for some time. I was thinking that I had not cut any intarsia for a long time and thought I would do that just for the practice. I can see I am pretty rusty, so they say. with intarsia but glad I made the effort. I like the subject matter and not sure what to do with it but Maybe I will just offer it on my Facebook page and see if anyone might be interested in it. Otherwise it will just hang in my shop to remind myself that I need to do a few of these to stay in practice. I still struggle a lot with the gluing process and that has always been my biggest problem with intarsia. I seem to get my pieces misaligned and then there is not looking back, Once you get something out of line, every other piece has to follow up with the error and it just magnifies from there. It is a nice pattern and who knows, perhaps I will try it again some time. Sorry for the bad lighting exposure. Dick heppnerguy
