  1. WELCOME to a place you are going to love if you continue to log on regularly and get to know the friendly and helpful members we have from all over this big planet of ours. Being that you are retired you should have plenty of time to explore the forum and all the other parts of this web site. There is a lot to see and many patterns to download and cut should you find some you you like to give a go at. I hope to see you around often. Be sure and ask any questions that you may have. We love to share our work here for others to see what we are up to. Everyone is very friendly here and we all started at one time or another where you are right now. Join the fun and let us know about your saw and the type of scrolling that interests you Dick heppnerguy
  2. My grandson showed an interest in scrolling a couple of years ago and cut a couple of pieces for Christmas gifts for his sister. He seemed to enjoy it but never was interested in it after that, I hope some day he might go back at it again. I love that the kids are willing to give this a try. It is really good for them and us Dick heppnerguy
  3. Thank you for the really nice encouragement and helpful hints.. I will try to keep this in mind as I continue to work on my understanding of how to make portrait patterns. I love your helpful comments. Dick heppnerguy
  4. Marg, I know by your posts that you are only holding yourself back, because your skills are already in place. You just need to 'go for it"...Let me suggest that you pick just one thing to accomplish this year and start doing them this month and every month here after....You can do it Dick heppnerguy
  5. Roly, I continue to preach to new scrollers" to not start with things that look complicated, but rather start on the 'easy' ones and work into the more complicated ones when you are confident withthe ones you have been doing.. Then jump into something a little more complex and you will be avoiding some disappointments that way" Thanks for reminding me of what I say to others.... Dick heppnerguy.
  6. This year i am working on learning portrait patterns and trying my luck at patterns in general at the same time. This past year I was able to fulfill a couple of my resolutions as i learned to be comfortable with the dreaded spiral blade and pushing my envelope to cut things I was straying from because of lack of confidence. Not everything went as well as I had hoped but progress was definitely made made. have made three portrait patterns so far. I can see I have a lot yet to learn but I am working on them and I am confident that I will succeed well enough that eventually I will catch on, (at least I hope so ). I also made a fret work pattern of an owl today. Again, I still have a long ways to go, but if one does not try, one will stay stale. So I will continue to make efforts and we all will see IF I am making progress or if I just don't have the talent for this endeavor. I enclosed my efforts of today. Dick heppnerguy
  7. ha ha funny guy.....fun idea.. not sure how well they will sell, but I usually find that I am wrong about what is sell and what will not. Often something I post on my Facebook page, just to add something new. sells several and amazes me, once more. Let us know, if you do have them at a sale, how they do.. Dick heppnerguy
  8. fret clocks are not only interesting to look at but also fun to cut. I took like the colorization you made as it stands out really well. One can not go wrong with a Sue Mey pattern, that is for sure. Easy to see why the wife loves her new clock. This will probably have returns of orders for friends that see it. Dick heppnerguy
  9. Thanks Paul. You nailed it for me. Thanks for the information I was after.. I now have it once more.. You can be sure I will be using it soon. Hey, HAPPY NEW YEAR, Paul. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Paul was right on. As soon as I heard his suggested font name, I knew that was it... ( tropicana ) You can find it on DaFonts and the download is free. Dick heppnerguy
  11. . HAPPY NEW YEAR RON and ALL the world wide family of scroller that frequent this page. Dick heppnerguy
  12. I vote for 4 because I like cartoon characters a lot Dick heppnerguy
  13. Way to go, Dave.. Yours skills are amazing, especially considering the short time you have been scrolling..Some have it and develop it while others have it and are afraid to push the envelope.. You are always pushing yours... wonderful piece Dick heppnerguy
  14. I used the font below and made a bunch of name plaques for my family's Christmas present tuck ins and then a year ago I lost all my fonts . I got most of the ones I wanted except, I can not for the life of me, remember this one.. Can anyone help me with the name. please??? Dick heppnerguy
  15. I am not sure what exactly you are after but I went to Inkscape and made a quick try of what I think you are looking to do . this is easily done, if I understand what you are after . If this is what you are trying to do, I can explain how to achieve this in a couple of quick sentences At this point I am not really sure though Dick heppnerguy
  16. my scrolling, new years resolution is to make a good honest effort to learn portrait pattern making ... Dick heppnerguy
  17. Looks like Judy has made a lot of people happy campers with her books. I guess the idea and choice is perfect Dick heppnerguy
  18. Maybe you could make some wood art that says "No Smoking" and glue it to the top...Just being a wise guy.. I was going to suggest filling it with sand too.. but really I would not use it as an ashtray. Wood is a fuel, you know... might just use is as a desk top decoration, instead Dick heppnerguy
  19. I can see that you have really been bitten by the scroll bug. It probably amazed you when you found out what you were able to do with a scroll saw and a piece of wood. Your work is well done and I expect you will be busy all year making gifts for weddings, graduations and and birthdays. Looks like you are well on your way to achieving whatever you decide to do. I am with you with not wanting to set around and do nothing. Keep up the good work and make sure the number one thing you keep doing is having fun... Dick heppnerguy
  20. I don't know about the EX but if I remember correctly, most saws do not run an true parallel on the blade so that they clear the sawdust better which in turn helps the blades to cut faster and better. I could be wrong about what i remember,as that happens to me often as I get older but that is what I seem to recall Dick heppnerguy
  21. Looks pretty unanimous to me.. i have to agree with the rest of the people Dick heppnerguy
  22. Merry Christmas to you and your family from Sharon and I . We will have to get together for lunch again before too long. I want to also thank you for all the hard work you do constantly for this web sight and it's members. We all are so appreciative for all you do. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I love seeing something that one discovers and shares that is a little different twist on things. I have not liked the glue/sawdust mix for the drilled holes with inlay-ed pieces so I just might give this idea a try on my next effort. Dick heppnerguy
  24. very nicely done...Thanks for sharing.. these will be well received and cherished, I feel sure of that Dick heppnerguy
  25. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Glad you are part of our world wide family Dick heppnerguy
