    Made this for my flower loving wife for Spring for our front porch. It's about 12" X 20". I'm not sure of the wood type. It looks like oak but it's light as balsa wood and is quite strong. The pattern is from a stencil I bought on Etsy.

    Thanks. I definitely benefited from the fact that only small areas show through the cuts. It's a mess behind the wood.

    Nice looking piece. For a piece like that I actually like the look of a non-mitered frame. Bit more rustic, which I like. I've got around 140 portraits on my shop walls and not a frame on one of them, so you know how much I enjoy making frames.

    Thanks, Dave. I just used some acrylic craft paint. I used the pattern after I removed it as a stencil to help with where to paint on the backer. The wood is 1/2" so the colors don't all show up as much as on thin plywood, but I actually like the way it works, as you move from one side to the other different parts stand out.

    Thank you! I've been a Willie fan since I was a young teenager. He's made several appearances on my wall. Kris was the last of the Highwaymen that I've cut individually. I'm going to try and rearrange them to get them all together.

    I hate that you had to leave your guitar. I had two guitars, one that I sold and one that I gave to a nephew, that I so wish I had back. I play some guitar but I'm not a "guitarist." My best memories of playing are from Guatemala. I used to go to an orphanage there to work for a week a couple of times a year. I learned a lot of Hispanic worship music and would sit in the evenings with some of the children from the home and sing. Priceless. I do think that the next best thing to being a gifted musician though is having a deep appreciation for good music. I've known many people who just don't get it and to me that's like missing one of your senses. Sad.

    I still piddle with mine sporadically but I’ve been trying to learn the finger picking part of John Prine’s, How Lucky, and have spent 3 or 4 days on the first measure and still stumble through it. My niece’s husband is a gifted guitarist and says it’s just practice and not a gift. I don’t buy it.

    I tweaked a great pattern by Sam Custodio. I absolutely love good finger style guitar picking and have tried many times to attain the skill but it's just not in the cards for me. I listened to acoustic guitar music through my headphones while cutting this and it was so therapeutic. The wood is 1/2" Sycamore and the backer was a thin plywood bottom from a repurposed dresser drawer. "♫ Who draws the crowd and plays so loud? Baby it's the guitar man. ♫
