  1. Ken go to your local Grocer and pick up some standard ordinary run of the mill Cloves crush them up a bit and put them on little dishes around your shop and you'll never see another Wasp, Yellow Jacket, Hornet or what ever you call it, they absolutely hate the smell of Cloves try it. Take my word for it I live in the tropics where there is at least a 100 sub species of every insect known to us northern folks.
  2. Check with the house of tools they used to be the dealer for Busy bee also Sterling tools You mat not get anywhere with the busy bee sticker as Busy bee made very few tools most were made in Korea but its a start. Busy bee was a distributor and carried some tools in their name they also handled Jet tools Oh there were several others but the names slip my mind
  3. Ditto I used to live in an area where we had a lot of oily wood so the trick was to machine the wood and glue it as fast as you could before the oil would come to the surface. Now I don't know where you live but there is a marine glue that available that will stick to any surface oily or not also Lee Valley in Canada had a glue for furniture repair that would work on oily surfaces Other than that I would say glue first then oil. Good luck Matt hope this will help somehow
  4. Great Cutting Job Kevin, Why did you choose the puzzle blade? Not questioning your decision just curious. I like the Red back also its a change up from the usual black. Nice nice nice.
  5. Wow just unbelievable response to a request, you guys are #1 in my books all great patterns
  6. Hi Luis I used to have a lathe, I spend a lot of time on it, Nova is a good name brand and kind of middle of the road as for cost, I found where all the money goes is not on the lathe but on Chucks face-plates gouges parting tools the list goes on and on your finishing products like sanding discs sand paper up to 600 grit like I said the list goes on and on, the next problem for me anyway was getting good turning wood but then I didn't live in a hardwood area so it was expensive to buy, and last but least the mess it is extremely messy. That's the bad news the good news is once you get in to it you'll fall in love with it. It seems like once you turn on the lathe the motor is your music and its you and your lathe and the dance begins when you get into it you'll understand ,what I mean is, the act of wood turning is like a dance your whole body moves with your chisel believe me you'll lose sense of time and everything I have talked to a lot of turners and have found the same myself its almost Therapeutic, If I would come home from a stressful job at the end of the day 1 hour of turning would relax me totally. Anyway a great hobby enjoy. If you need to know anything else drop me a note glad to help .../Hans
  7. Fantastic work on both parts cutting and the pattern I would be proud to give that as a present WOW!
  8. 3 steps forward and 2 back is not such a bad thing its still going forward, its just your body telling you to slow down and heal properly, your not healing right so you have to go back and heal the parts you skipped trying to rush through the process. Have no worries my friend You'll be back on your feet in no time and making sawdust. There is plenty of people in the village alone pulling and praying for you. Relax keep a good spirit and keep your chin up.
  9. Duane I used to spend a fortune on Magazines but after the internet came out and all the scroll saw sites starting to pop up I haven't had the need to for the outrageous prices the Magazine companies are charging with a 75% advertising content, The suggestions, help, and free patterns are all available right at your finger tips. And I would rather take the advise of the folks right here in the village and other scroll saw sites as well with the years of experience and trail and error then some editor sitting behind a desk who had a saw given to him in return for promoting their product. That kind of sums it up for me hope it shines some light on the subject for you.
  10. great job Paul I'm sure they'll be happy with that its outstanding
  11. Good night Fay I hope tomorrow will look a lot brighter for you please stay cheery and positive and all will turn out as it was meant to be.

  13. Its been 10 minutes since I read this will I ever stop laughing?
  14. I know they are made here in Mexico but you can't buy them here, you can buy every other tool made by DeWalt but not the 788 I ended up having to import it from the US and ship it here and pay close to 300 duty.
  15. good looking basket Fay keep it up thanks for showing us.
  16. Fantastic work and congratulations in overcoming that fear I'm glad I have inspired you into trying more challenging cuts it opens doors to so many more beautiful patterns out there. I very happy for you, now throw away all your bunny and kitten patterns your are an artist. .../Hans
  17. I believe Type 1 were made in Canada and Type 2 abroad if I'm right its stamped right on your spec's tag on the side of the machine I know it is on mine it clearly says type 2 on it, check it out
  18. Beautiful cross its one of the nicest I've seen done great job I'm sure the aroma was more then pleasant as were the sneezes
  19. Thanks for the coffee I really don't miss cutting firewood at all but I do need to cool down the A/C usage got my power bill today its the biggest I've seen for a long time a whopping 1100 pesos for 2 months Double from the last bill.
  20. Great job john I concur with Doug using the #1 first and then chasing it with a #3 Spiral , One of the big advantage I find with spirals is that they make great rasps so you can actually shape something by rubbing the side of the spiral against the wood it works great I just did one piece today only using spirals it came out great. Yes I think you got it mastered Doug.
  21. Yes it gets stuck in between so to speak and I find by tapping the switch it moves it just enough, Facing the machine on the left hand site the lower screw closest to the table if you tighten it you don't need a lever to hold the arm up but always make sure when you put the arm down that it is all the way down or your tension-er won't work also don't over tighten.
  22. Beck I just checked out the Ferm web site I guess they only come with pin type so you're pretty well stuck with it until you upgrade. .../Hans
  23. Yes Becky makes perfect sense I think at one time or another we all owned a pin type saw now some saws will allow both types and some saws you can convert to pin less type not sure of yours but check with your manufacturer to see what they recommend you do. When you get into finer detailed work as you all ready discovered you're going to have to drill smaller holes and with the pin type your blade just won't fit. I had one of those machines 20 years ago and I know its a lot of work for 1 hour of usage before the blade is dull any way, I had a machine shop grind of the pins for me and re drill the blades and install a portable pin in them for me and I would only use those for special occasions like Sunday's and Christmas Other than that I don't know what else to suggest except for stick to outside cuts for now until you decide this is what you like to do as a hobby and then invest in a better machine.
  24. Here's the finished product guys I'm very happy with it, thanks a million it means a lot to me
  25. Thanks everybody for the great out pouring of help I really appreciate it, they are all great but of-course being the Daddy and her being my baby girl I have certain thing I know about her that you as designer don't, especially working with such a small picture. I'm still amazed at how you came up with a pattern. My hat goes off to each and everyone of you. So what I came up with was a combination, I'm really sorry Paul but I didn't get back to the computer to see if any one else was trying to do this so you didn't get picked but I'll give you a honorable mention. No as for Russel I used most of your picture but used white out on the dimples as she didn't have any also I liked Lawson's face better especially the mouth so I cut out the mouth and taped it over the top, worked great. I'm very please thanks again everybody. Next coffee on me. I'll post the picture in a bit
