  1. Kris, you sure have the ability to make some great pattern and the skills to come them as well. I am always anxious when I see you have posted something new, as I always know it will be interesting and on the challenging side. Dick heppnerguy
  2. it looks good in the day time but really adds a lot of interest when lit up. I love your printer paper idea too. Dick heppnerguy
  3. I have not seen one like this before.. Everyone seems to like their names so these should sell, I would think. Interest idea. Dick heppnerguy
  4. Wow, you have been one busy person. A lot of nice project are coming out of your shop, for sure Dick heppnerguy
  5. The frame was a great addition to your well cut pattern. I need to take time to frame more of what I make, as it is easy to see how much it adds to a project. Dick heppnerguy
  6. She states that a long time ago in England, hard up country folks would snack on new Hawthorne leaves and blossoms for nourishment. They referred to it as 'bread and cheese' because they didn't have any real bread and cheese on hand. I did not see where she mentioned the name of the bird, but I just skimmed through the article. 7. I saw this pattern in the Scroll Saw Woodworking and Craft, magazine and showed it to my wife. She said she really liked it and so did I so I cut it about a week or so ago. I have just not got around to posting it until now. The pattern is made by Fiona Kingdon and is on page 36. She had a better wood choice then I have but I cut mine in BB PLY with a Pegas #3 blade for most of the piece. I did, however use a #2/0 spiral for the vaining. It was an all evening job in my shop to cut it out as it went pretty slow, but I am satisfied with the results. Dick heppnerguy
  8. I know what you are saying. I do not want to lead anyone astray. that was not my purpose. I just finishes a project and I used a #1 Pegas MGT as well as a #2/0 spiral on it. It is not that I use only one blade all the time, but for most patterns, I turn to the #3 or #1 Pegas. Dick heppnerguy
  9. Yes, you are correct. I am sure I saw this before somewhere, but not sure where it was. Dick heppnerguy
  10. I just finished cutting a piece with #1 Pegas and was very happy with the results as well. Nice to not have to fight them any longer Dick heppnerguy
  11. As we get older more of these crazy things seem to happen, almost daily, at least to me. It can't keep happening or I just might forget who I am. Dick heppnerguy
  12. Look up a couple of posts and you will find a link to the pattern Dick heppnerguy
  13. I was going through some things I downloaded some time back and ran across this piece. I believe it was a paper cut someone had done and posted somewhere. I remember when I saw it, I thought it might make a fun scroll saw pattern so I put it on Inkscape and made a pattern. My wife liked the pattern too, so I cut one for her. This is the results. I used a piece of wood I had laying around and cut it with a Pegas #3MG blade. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Very nice. If I remember correctly, I believe this is a Sue Mey design or maybe a Steve Good. Sure a great Idea for your barber. Dick heppnerguy
  15. Congratulations. It is truly a good feeling that someone liked what you did and you get the recognition from it. I too got a little recognition on some wedding boxes I made a few years ago. It sure boosts your moral and makes you feel really pleased. Great job. Who knows, we may just see some of your other work in the future in the magazine Dick heppnerguy
  16. Green is the perfect choice for this piece but I think the black stands out a little better. I had the same remark as I just made to you, on a piece I posted earlier. I like the constructive comments that people give me, as sometimes they help you to relook at something you have made. Like someone else told me, 'it is your piece, whatever you like best, you should use'. I think that is good advice but when you are asking, you are going to get different opinions and then, after all is said and done, it is up to you to make the choice. A really fun pattern and cut very well, as usual, Clayton. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Fun little piece. Perfect for this Halloween Dick heppnerguy
  18. Good for you. A lot of people try the spirals and most people do not have a great experience the first time them use them, but a lot people also have a problem staying on the lines when they start scrolling also. Time and effort is the key to success for most things, including using spiral blades. I find them really perfect for a pattern with a lot of very tiny fret cuts because the spiral is less apt to brake the piece as you are not really making turns with the blade, just changing direction. I watched with awe when I saw pieces with numerous small fret and soon discovered that people who like doing those patterns are often spiral users. That inspired me to try and learn how to use them. When I go a long time without using them, I find I somethings struggle with them too. As far as straight lines go with a spiral. try cutting the straight line with a flat blade and them go down that cut line with the spiral and it will widen it without the little ripples one often will get with the spiral blade. Keep up the good work and remember the more you use the spiral, the better you will be with them. They are the same as anything else......practice makes perfect Dick heppnerguy
  19. I have to say, I like your piece. The frame is perfect for it and your work is very good also. No one would ever guess that everything did not go as planned. We all have "our moments", you know Well with all that mess you had to go through with the pattern being glued to the wrong side, I think at that point you probably should have removed the pattern and printed another one and then placed it where you intended the first one to go. As far as removing the pattern with mineral spirits, you do not need to put very much on it to begin with, just dampen it with a rag tip dipped in the MS and rub the dampened part lightly over the pattern and wait a couple of minutes and it should fall off, almost on it's own. If you find there was a little bit of residue left on the wood after that, then take the lightly dampened rag of the residue and it should come off quite easily. Perhaps you are using too much spray glue also. It only take a light once over on the back of the pattern and let it set for a couple of minutes and you will find it sticks really well, providing the wood is clean at the start. I used to spray a pretty good amount of glue on my pattern and then put it on my board as quickly as I could before it could dry. Then I read about the way I just described to you. and gave it a try. I really was afraid the pattern would come off if I waited for the glue to sit awhile but to my surprise, it worked really well. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I know what you are saying about 'one blade does not fit all', but for the type of scrolling I do, it works without any problems for me. I am working on another pattern that is a quite detailed fret piece, so I went with the #1R Pegas where I would have used a spiral blade before. I did it because I did not want to deal with the fuzzies that I know I will get with the spiral. So far it is working perfectly and I have had no problems so far. That of course, does not mean I might have wished otherwise, should I make a big mistake somewhere, but so far so good and I am happy that I choose that blade instead of the spiral blade. 21. actually the color tones in the photo are really not very correct, but I understand where you are coming from and I agree with your premise. This just worked for me, this time. Dick heppnerguy
  22. Welcome to The Village. You have stated that you have done some exploration here but I am sure there are a lot of things you have not yet seen. The people here are friendly and always willing to help with anything they can. The most important thing I can tell you is, log on often, post to others when you see something they have posted and if you do that, it will be only a very short time before you feel like you not only have acquired a lot of new friends but you have also have a new, world wide family. Dick heppnerguy
  23. Well if you ever get back to Arizona, please contact me and perhaps we could get a chance to meet each other. I would enjoy that. We live right off HWY 10, which is the East- West main Highway for the southern route. We live halfway between Tucson and Phoenix. Dick heppnerguy
  24. I do and I thank you for the information. I did not know that. This is a very helpful thing for me to understand. Dick heppnerguy
  25. I still have not checked out your information but will do that in a few minutes.. I really appreciate your help here. Dick heppnerguy
