  1. That is even more amazing and mystifying to me. Now I really do not understand how you accomplished this piece, but then I do not understand a lot of how people can do certain things they do. It is truly and interesting accomplishment. Wish I lived close enough to you to see with my own eyes how this was done. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Very well done.. I would love to know how you were able to get the 45 on your belt sander. That would be so helpful. You certainly tackled that project with a lot of thought and skill. I came out very beautifully too. Dick heppnerguy
  3. Very nice project. Not only are your dogs well done but I love the way you made the frame for them. I is very pleasant to look at and enjoy. Dick heppnerguy
  4. You have such a nice variety of patterns and ideas. I love your talent as a pattern maker. I can only imagine the responses you are getting with you patterns on a daily basis. Dick heppnerguy
  5. I love the added inlays. I keep telling myself to add some of that to my pieces too, as I have not done enough inlays to get to feel comfortable with it. So many talented people here in The Village that keeps me wondering why I am not advancing with all these ideas I see here and trying to do more of them. That said, you inspired my two brain cells to wake up and ad new things. You did a great job on those inlays and they indeed, make things pop. Keep up the great work and continue to post your projects for all of us to enjoy and be inspired by Dick heppnerguy
  6. You know Paul, I have cut a lot more items as I only posted a few of them as they are not a lot to brag about but they are something I hope the family will enjoy. I did them for the men and grandkids and great grands so there were a large number of them along with some portrait ones. I was in my shop why too much and I am now taking a breather and enjoying my time with Sharon. Good to see you back on here, I know you and your wonderful workmanship are missed by many. Call you before too much longer. Say Hello to Patti for me too Dick
  7. I saw this on my phone and had to show it to my wife. It is such a cute pattern. Excellent execution that makes this one a keeper Dick heppnerguy
  8. I have to say, not only have you done a great job cutting this but the lighting and shading is done very skillfully, making it an outstanding project Dick heppnerguy
  9. I downloaded the pattern and hope to give it a go before too long. Nicely done and thanks for the tips. I saw some small changes I will make when I cut it too. Dick heppnerguy
  10. I really like this plaque. I have seen several people make similar ones and have been thinking about giving these a try in the near future.. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Glad to see you back on here again. I do not think you will be able to stay away very long as there are just too many great people here and it is so easy to miss them all when one decides too be absent for awhile. We are going to Oregon on December 6th but will not have a car, so I most likely will not have the opportunity to go see you this time, as I always try to do when in Heppner. It will be a short visit and we will probably be doing some family Christmas time then. I will try to give you a call and at least chat with you some. Nicely done piece, as usual. I made another one for Sharon for our anniversary, which was yesterday. I did a little colorization to bring out the flowers within the leaves but decided not to do the leaves, as I was planning to do because I am not talented in that field at all. I did miss one of the cuts in one of the birds, just overlooked it and luckily I even missed it in my hole drilling. You and Patti have a nice holiday season.. Dick
  12. I sure try to... sometimes i wonder about myself and what tomorrow will bring. Luckily I am is extremely good health and walk ever day through out my neighborhood. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Here is a couple more Christmas gifts I did in my shop. I meant to post them but thought I had forgotten to even taken a photo of them, until I ran across these in my emails to myself. The Native American with the eagle and the fox I made this for a Native American friend of ours. The 35 Ford is one a few that I have made for myself because it is a favorite car of mine. Something about this car that I have always admired, I never owned one though. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Nice twist on the anima; puzzles. I love it Dick heppnerguy
  15. I like your design here.. What is the font you used here? I love it but do not have it on my computer. We have the same winter difference here in Southern Arizona as it is going to be back up to 90 this week. Has been in the 60's and mid 70's following our record 100 plus days this year. Thanks for posting Dick heppnerguy
  16. Cool little project. It looks like they would never work. Amazes me they do. I guess I am not very mechanically inclined. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Very nice display of some really well done pieces. I know the portraits must have caused a lot of people to stop and stand there in awe. Dick heppnerguy
  18. great pattern and very interesting information about him and the other artists that recorded the song. It got my head singing the song in it, as I was reading your post. Dick heppnerguy
  19. I continued to make the split letters for the rest of the family.. just a repeat sort of post, so I did not include any of them and did a couple of new requests that I made and mailed off but did not take photos of. Here are four that I did for the our 5 month old new great grandkids. I used an initial teddy bear pattern from Steve Good but put in the baby's names in place of the initial. I don't remember posting the John Wayne piece I did for my new son in law but if I did I am sorry for the repeat. The same on the custom plaque for my wife's niece. I have been busy almost daily in my shop and I think I am about finished, which is good as we are going to be bomb barded with company through the holidays. Dick heppnerguy
  20. Thanks Barb. Good heads up. I book marked it for the future. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Yes I saw those. I liked them a lot. I'm sure I will be using those in the future.. just not right now as I have the ones done for now. Thanks for the heads up. Dick heppnerguy
  22. No Bob, I just choose to use the initial of the name I was making. That is what I wanted to do with them. I thought it made it more personal that way. The grandkids are different then the adult ones I posted here. This was not even half of them. Dick heppnerguy
  23. I bought the patterns off ETSY. They did not come out very well so I just wing it. I made these about 8 inches tall. I did not paint the back side of the letters because I thought they would glue better if I did not and besides they can not be seen anyway. I will post a copy of a letter here for you so you can see what I am talking about. At first I used Inkscape and made all the lines so they were cuttable and after doing a few, found the pattern making was too time consuming and I could wing them without a problem, so I just printed them out like they came and they were not that difficult to figure it out as I went along. Thanks for you questions and comments Dick heppnerguy
  24. I have made one each for the married couples in our family. Somewhere around 30 of them. These will be going to the ones we exchange gifts with as well as those we do not. Everyone will know we are thinking about them this way. It isn't much but then the cost out of our pockets are minimal too. I am now in the process of making names for the grandkids and should finish them tomorrow. Dick heppnergyt
  25. Some of you saw the photo of my great granddaughter that I put into the 'pattern request' forum. I had three people respond and made some great patterns. I made a copy and took them to my wife for her opinion on which one to cut. She responded, "You have been wanting to learn how to make portrait patterns for more than 4 years. I think the patterns that you have made so far have been pretty good. If you do not take the initiative to give it a try you are never going to understand how to do it. I say, make it this time to start trying to do it. It doesn't have to be perfect, heck look at how far you have come with your scrolling. If you would not have continued to cut things, you would be no better today then when you first gave all this a shot." I explained to her that I agreed but I was totally unsure about the hair in the photo. I had three good examples at how to do her hair, so I decided to go ahead and give it a try. It is not perfect, by a long shot, but with the examples I was given in the patterns, I went ahead and made a pattern on my own. This is the results...... Thank you all for taking the time to make me a pattern, and believe me, I really appreciate them all. They did help me to understand better how to go about accomplishing my goal here. I understand I have a long way to go before I get this to where I want it, but my wife was correct and effort is going to be my best teacher. I know I will loose a few but in the end, I hope to be able to accomplish what I am after, for the most part, down the line. This will be one to look back on for a comparison as I continue to try and make wood portraits. Dick heppnerguy
