  1. I have been somewhat busy in my shop but just did not get around to posting for a long time, so here are a couple I cut. The Judy Garland pattern I have been waiting to cut for some time and just never gotten to it. The little bi plane is from the # 60 issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking and craft magazine. It was in the issue as a toy but as you may know be now I am not a big fan of wooden toys just because they are too plain for the most part and I prefer the more like model look. So this one I rounded off the body and the wings and brought the upper wing down some to make it a little more realist looking. I have a neighborhood friend who has had me make him several wooden air craft that he hangs on his garage ceiling where we have coffee with several other people every day. I have some more projects to post when I get around to it later. Dick heppnerguy
  2. I also did a few craft shows and I did OK with making some money to buy supplies and tools but a craft show means one makes a variety of items, several of each in order to capture as many peoples interests as possible and then pack up and get ready for the next show. For me, it took away the fun and it became work and that is not why I started a hobby in the first place. I am not interested in the 'go after the money' aspect but rather the enjoyment of creating something I did not think I could ever do. I get way more satisfaction of making an item and giving it to someone, {like memorial plaques following a loved ones death} than selling a piece in a craft show. Everyone has their own reason for making them and some people make a good share of extra money. I am happy for those who can do it for the satisfaction of padding the expense of their wood working, but it is not why I started doing it and continue until today. Thank you for your encouraging and helpful comments. I enjoyed reading them. Dick heppnerguy
  3. I started my woodworking after I retired as I realized I did not have any hobbies and figured it would be much more interesting is I had something to do in my spare time that would make my life more fun than watching TV. I tried several things to see if they might be something I would be interested in doing for the remainder of my life. I had seen a woman selling some Intarsia dogs and was blown away by what I saw. I could not believe anyone could do that wonderful work as she had in her booth. It was several years before I was searching for a hobby but it stayed in the back of my mind. One day I ran across another lady selling that sort of items and asked her if there was a name for the hobby she had. She told me it was called wood intarsia. I looked it up on the computer and it took me to Sue Mey's site. I looked at it and a couple of videos on Youtube and decided to give it a try although I did not have a scroll saw at the time. I made myself a simple pattern I made from looking at one of Sue's easy patterns and drew out a pattern and cut it on my bandsaw and after quite a bit of sanding, I ended up with a project and the idea that I too can do this. well I cut intarsia for about 7 years and sold several pieces and was getting a little bored with it at that time and started scroll work. Now I do a little of both and enjoy the changing back and forth. Unfortunately for me, I am not a perfectionist but I do try to do as good as I can. I do not spend much time reading a lot of the suggestions others make on how to do things so it is all 'learn by trial and effort' for me. Dick heppnerguy
  4. my wife has a lot of problems with balance, dizziness, and a couple of major things that are not good, that makes her in need of much assistance. I doubt very much that I will be traveling to Oregon for quite awhile. If I do, I will make every effort to go and see Paul again. I have a lot of admiration for him and consider him to be a good personal friend of mine. Dick heppnerguy
  5. You are one talented person indeed. I love it when I see someone who's work is outstanding. It is talent like yours that keeps me humble and knowing I am only a mediocre scroller. I do the best I know how but really do not take the time to understand how to improve myself accept by my own trial and error. Dick heppnerguy
  6. First time I have seen this piano box. You and Marie are true wood artist. Both are jaw droppers. Unbelievable talent in both of these boxes. Dick heppnerguy

  9. I just saw where they are saying it will be 104 degrees as soon as 11pm. That means when I go for my coffee friends at 5am tomorrow it should be down in the upper 60 for about an hour when the sun comes up and start the reminder that it is indeed summer here in Southern Arizona once more Dick heppnerguy
  10. Welcome to our family of scrollers. I am amazed you can scroll with one hand somewhat challenged. I sure hope you will see some improvement with it as time goes on. We all want to get to know you a better so log on often and anticipate often. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Welcome to The Village. I think you will find this to be the site you were hoping to find. Everyone seems to be so happy to help each other in any problem or question one might have. Relax, look around and be sure and comment on other peoples posts as that helps to get to know other also. Hope to see you around often. Dick heppnerguy

  13. What a beautiful project. I think I will pack up some clothing and head out to South Carolina for some wood and painting lessons so I can make some beautiful items like you just finished. Dick heppnerguy

  17. Very nice job. Taking the necessary time to do it right, really pays off as you just proved to yourself and us Dick heppnerguy
  18. very cute. I have never tried cutting any of these but I know I probably should as they would make some nice unique decorations for the Christmas tree Dick heppnerguy
  19. Waylon is one artist that I often turn his music onto when I am cutting in my shop. I never get tired of hearing him sing. Very nice project Dick heppnerguy
  20. The models as I like them....well done and I am also sure it will be well received too Dick heppnerguy
  21. A fun project. I really enjoy the patterns that are more like little models then the blocky little toys cut from 2 x 4s, but everyone has their own likes adn dislikes. This one is to my liking. Dick heppnerguy
  22. Nicely done. I just might cut this pattern too, some day, as you inspired me to give it a try. Looks great Dick heppnerguy
  23. great gift. It will be cherished for a long long time by this couple, I am sure. Dick heppnerguy
  24. I too love fret work projects. They are quite impressive to those who have not ventured into scroll saw fret work. There are so many nice patterns of this type so it is always a rewarding piece to the scroller, when he or she is finished with one as it is to whomever is lucky enough to receive one of them. Nice project and well done. Dick heppnerguy
  25. I seriously think I am going to give this one a try also. After seeing the fabulous work you two do.....not sure if I am going to post mine when I finish it, but I am going to finish it. Dick heppnerguy
