  1. Not to long ago, @New to Scrollin, posted a portrait of the late BB King. I love it, he did an awesome job with it. I decided to attempt cutting it and if successful give it to my son for him to hang in his "music room" in the house he recently purchased. I showed him a picture of the portrait first and he was real excited about it and wanted one for his best friend. So I stack cut 3 1/8" BB. This is one finished and framed, I am making a frame for the second one now. Cut with Pegas 2/0 spiral blades. The picture itself is 17" x 17 1/2". The largest picture I have done.
  2. I am anxious to follow your progress. I have one all cut out and an attempt on assembly. Something t'ant right with it, I got frustrated and it sits waiting for me to figure out what I did wrong. It was fun to cut, love to cut gears for some reason. Maybe this thread will inspire me to work at it some more. And wow, did this thread get off topic. Maybe a new clock building thread needs to be started.
  3. https://www.advmachinery.com/products/saw-dust-management-system @octoolguy, That is what it is. I do not know how well it works.
  4. Good on you and and my heart goes out to the family.
  5. Very nice!
  6. The ends of both the thumb screw and the the other screw look pretty rough to me. I have been going to make a little jug to sand both. Waxing the fifth wheel. That is a lot of work... I'd help you b-u-t..... that is a lot of work......!! I meant to say make a little "Jig" not jug.... you can see where my mind goes!!
  7. You are just full of cool ideas.... Looks nice.
  8. Great scrolling, Dave. Ready for football? Only time I was any is if my son-in-law is visiting me or I am visiting him and he is watching it. I don't have a competitive bone in my body, so don't watch much sports... I do like to watch the America's Cup Sailing when it is on.
  9. That is some fine scrolling. Congrats on retirement, had to smile when you say "40 extra hours of me time".... I seem to have less and less "me" time in retirement. And as I get older it takes me longer to do what I want to do, so the net is not good....
  10. I purchased one used off Ebay probably 6 years ago. Came with case some bits/sanders and flex shaft. I don't use it real often, but have never had a problem with it.
  11. Sometimes yes. I have never had to straighten the ends of spiral blade and sure once in a while I would get hockey stick, but I could also get one once in a great while with a flat blade. I don't know for sure what is happening. I'll keep playing with it. See if I can figure something out. Or not....
  12. Took the Pegas clamps off again, set the screws using a feeler gauge, they are both set proud the same distance. Put them back on the Seyco, clamped in new New Spiral 3/0 Flying Dutchman blade, scroll three pieces out and this it the blade....
  13. It is at Woodenvisions page 12 last row second from left https://woodenvisions.com/index.php/product-category/patterns/advanced/page/12/ Don't ask me how I know...........
  14. Another procrastinator that has wanted to build on for a long time, never did. Now. I hook my Fein Vac up to my powered sanders and collect the dust. Hand sanding I try to do outside, well actually I try not to do it at all......
  15. Not sure I understand this, you used a washer just as a gauge or did you put it on somewhere? So hummm, you are sorta telling me it is probably my problem..... I did adjust the screw while I had the clamps off and could see them better. But I did not use any type gauge, I eye-balled it. I put the clamps back on and there is some improvement, still getting hockey stick on the bottom clamp but not as often. Maybe this evening I take them off again and use a gauge to make sure they are both protruding the same. Not sure how far is correct...
  16. I really like that, Kevin. Nice cutting. I looked at Steve Good's pattern catalog and could not find that pattern. You sure that is where you got it?
  17. Not just a rabbit, it a very cute flop eared bunny that is well cut.
  18. This is the roller I use. I bought it years ago, I think it is a veneer roller.
  19. I do not know if the electrics work better, not worth the extra $100 to find out... I always practice on scrap wood until I get the heat correct. Those thinking of getting one, a nice "Sharpie works good. Really not as bad as all that. I use mine, especially if it is something that has a nice place to brand. I also purchased some of Steve Good's Signature Coins, they really look nice.
  20. That may be where mine came from, I have the one that saw "from the shop of" with the guy with the chisel. Another thing to think about, the less detail/design involved, the easier it is to get a good brand. Mine is difficult, too much to get evenly heated...
  21. I've had that happen on Baltic Birch also. Seems like it is getting harder and harder to find a decent sheet of it in my area.
  22. Sorry, I can not remember where I purchased mine. I know it was a little over $70 on sale at the time. There are several places that sell them. Search "signature branding iron". And of coarse I am sure you can get one through Amazon.
  23. I have a branding iron. I usually brand on unfinished wood because I will brand the back of the backer which I do not finish,,,,, should I? I have also branded a piece of veneer several times and I can cut off a piece with the brand on it and glue it to a piece. If you cut it nice it looks pretty good. My branding iron is one you heat by torch and it takes some practice to get it heated just right and evenly. That is the reason I branded a piece of veneer several times. When I have it heated correctly I want to brand more than one thing... So I hit the veneer. Then I don't have to heat it for each project. I have not tried an electric one, maybe more convenient, but somewhat more expensive.
  24. I'd say that turned out very well. I saw a Charles Dearing Video a couple years ago where Charles was showing how he could make a sharp inside point using a Spiral. I never could do it. But he also never used less than a #5 spiral, I never use bigger than an 2/0 so maybe with a bigger blade it may be possible. In the half way done update you posted it looked to me like you had colored the eye on that tiger. Maybe it was just my eyes registering incorrectly, my eyes do some funny things. But it looked good... what happen?
  25. GATOR, so glad you are back, you have been missed. Great cuttings.
