  1. Beautiful box. Stars are hard, and being that small they look almost impossible to me.
  2. I use the mac mop on every piece I scroll. It gently remover the fuzzies, and softens sharp corners/edges you want softened. I have the 7" one mounted on my lathe all times except the rare time I decide to turn something.
  3. If you are not an expert, what expert did those projects for you? Great work.
  4. Yes, well done.
  5. Nice!
  6. I finished @Charlie E's cross. I mounted it on a backer, because I want to hang it somewhere. Picture does not give the piece of blackwalnut justice. I think my poor old Canon Power shot is dying. Can't complain it has been with me a long time, kicked around and been very faithful.
  7. I saw a few issues of that magazine on ebay.
  8. Welcome. A lot of born and breds here. I was bred in Oregon, born in Washington. Which is now the most northern state of California. I hope I die somewhere else in a free state.
  9. I held off getting a cell phone for many years but finally caved. Got a prepaid for $49 on sale at Walmart. As far as I can tell, it does everything my wife's and kids' much more expensive phones do. We'll see how long it lasts. I have to admit they are addictive. The Family was teasing me for being on it a lot after years of me complaining about them doing the very same thing. I tell them to "hush, I have to catch up!" My son asked me if I had reached the end of the internet yet. I do have to admit I had real fun with my son, playing Spades. I think it is the card game I played with my brothers in VN. I swear when we started playing this past week, I could smell the scent of wet canvas tent.
  10. Looks like it might be worn out before Santa gives it to your grandson! Pretty neat. Kids of today have things we couldn't even dream up when I was a kid. I would not trade the times to be growing up, but I do admit they have some awesome things.
  11. I love Charlie's cross so I found a piece of pretty Black Walnut I want to scroll it in. First I wanted to play around a bit. I took some scape 1/4" bb and stained one piece left another piece nature, to get an idea of what it would look like inlaid. This is rough, no finishing' no hiding the holes. It has some promise. Then I wanted to try some relief cutting with it. Again, no finishing just to get an idea of what it might look like. Of the two, I think I like the relief cut best The result is I and going with just cutting as is. I do not want to take a chance of wasting a nice piece of Black Walnut.

    Hello

    welcome to the village
  13. To me, one of the good things about Hegner clamps is they are made of steel. not aluminum. You would really have to clamp hard spread them out.
  14. Another that has not heard of them. Anxious to see how it works out. Another place I buy from sometimes is "Cherokee wood Products'. I have always received great product from them.
  15. @rash_powder If you happen to find the exact size of bushing needed at McMaster Carr please let me know which ones they are. I know they will be a meteric size. Mine are fine on my Hegner, but I would like to have some on hand, just in case.
  16. You did a great job. He will love it, I promise. I have made around 20 of them for the various services and given them to veterans I meet. Some of the most appreciated gifts I have given. I have even seen tears of gratitude.
  17. Great ornaments and thanks for the patterns.
  18. Looks like a good simple fix, but one more thing to do before scrolling proceeds. You have to remember to lift that stop up. Hope it works out. I have been blessed, I was born a bottom feeder, never could get top feeding working for me. No matter what saw I owned.
  19. Nice sign and I agree.
  20. The wood is 13" x 13". buffalo is aprox 9" x 6.5"
  21. This is sold as an intarsia pattern, but I did it as a segmentation. Just because I like doing segmentation and don't have the wood for intarsia. I saw the pattern and really like it. The picture shown was segmentation also. The pattern is on Etsy at Prinn DesignsShop I did it in 1/4" BB, using stains for color, black. Gerneral Finishes Gel stain "Nutmeg" and "Candlelite", Varathane, "Golden Oak", and "Dark Walnut". Finish with several coats of Deft Lacquer. There are a little over 60 pieces to it. I want to frame it, just haven'd decided how. Something that compliments Native American pictures.
  22. You can tell but the responses, blades are a personal thing. It is what works best for you. Thinner, softer wood, smaller blade with more teeth. I am a slow cutter, do no like aggressive blades, I mainly use #1 or #2 or smaller for 1/4" wood. I only use a large blade #5 or larger for 3D cutting. Best thing is to buy a dozen each of different sizes and and tooth configurations, try them and find out what works best for you.
  23. I downsize and increase the sizes of patterns all the time. One options for printing is "custom" size, where you can enter the % size you want it to be. If I want it bigger than will fit a 8.5 x 11 paper I use "poster print" with adobe files or a free software called "Splitprint". I really like it you can add cut marks, page numbers. I print some adobe with it also because I and designate the size I want in inches. Before do that I take the pattern to my editor and crop out any border that may be around the image.
  24. Just two things I think should be kept in mind about a table saw. This is just my opinion. More people have been hurt using a table saw than probably any other woodworking tool. That is what the emergency doctor told me when I walked into the emergency room with a bloody towel wrapped around my hand. It is also the heart of a wood shop. So I say buy the best you can afford, and although I could not afford one when I got my best, now days if I was younger and more affluent it would be a Sawstop. Barring not being able to swing that, get the most safety attachment you can. Splitters are a must have at a minimum. Grippers are good, I have two. and many other sizes and types of devices to feed stock into the blade.
  25. Great job!
