  1. Got these done on Thursday. Pattern help from @don in brooklin on and @Fab4. Cut from leftover Cedar rail material. Finish is Walrus Oil.
  2. Thanks Gonzo. I purchased a bunch of s4s wood from KJP Select Hardwoods. They are in Ontario so it does have to be shipped. I can get some from Windsor Plywood here in Winnipeg. They do not have a lot in the s4s product so I haven't gotten as much from them. I don't have a way to mill the wood myself. Also not particularly interested in figuring that out. I have a friend that also does woodworking. He keeps a box that he fills up with various woods. He calls it his "Barb" box.
  3. The first top feather on the left and then count down from there to the fourth. On the block I cut from, it is very pronounced. The sanding has minimized it. I sure it would show better on a larger piece.
  4. Here is a second Steve Shears hummingbird. It has been reduced in size from the original. It is maybe 6" long. Because of that I grouped a couple of the wing bits. Woods used are Quilted Maple, Yellowheart, Canarywood, Eucalyptus, Tigerwood, Lacewood, ebonized Walnut. Finish is a coat of Walrus oil. I am disappointed in the lacewood. I was hoping for more grain showing.
  5. RJ, the original post is from 2021.
  6. Those look great.
  7. More thoughts from me! It is always amazing, to me, how hard we are on ourselves. We never expect kids to know how to do something right away. Telling them to practice, practice, patience. We need to take our own advice. Please hang in there.
  8. Iguanadon aka Scott Seifer is no long in the Byrtle Grove area. He still hangs around the forum. I am sure there are others in your area.
  9. Great job. The wood you used for the water is perfect. I am thinking that is the Black Lima.
  10. Very nice.
  11. Welcome from Winnipeg. If you have a DeWalt view the Bob Brokaw videos from the Gwinnette Woodworking youtube channel. It is loooong but very informative.
  12. Exactly what Wichman said. Or, if it is thick enough, leave it at a standing piece. As for a backer, you could use some heavy cardstock.
  13. I think I liked it better without the frame.
  14. Well done Frank. I like it better than some of the other Umbrella Girl series.
  15. It is just on the edge. It is about 1/2" thick.
  16. My kinda plant! Never needs watering!! Intasria succulent. Poplar, Limba and Cherry. 5"x4.5".
  17. I have some anti-vibration pads under my Excelsior. Made a difference.
  18. Very nice.
  19. I noticed that change on the FB group. Looks good.
  20. Nice work Frank. Could you adjust the colouring around the sun. Make it look more like a setting sun.
  21. I saw a video that used the melted product as a finish for outdoor ornamental items. It made the fairy house waterproof. I will also point out (only because my father worked for Dow, the manufacturer of Styrofoam, that the product in the videos is "expanded polystyrene beads" not Styrofoam. "If it isn't blue it isn't Styrofoam" was the tagline through the 1960's & 70's, for sure.
  22. Both are great. Love the whimsy of the bird house.
  23. I have been at events where there is a tag put under the chair, or a plate etc. and that is the person who gets to take home the centerpiece. Lovely work. I like the mixes of wood.
