  1. I have a pen and pencil set made from plum. It is great wood and your finish made that piece really pop.
  2. @tgiro I am always amazed at folks who work in the 4th dimension--seeing patterns before they're cut. I realize you just rotated the rings, but it became something truly artistic. You and Carole have an eye for the unseen.
  3. I have noticed this from time to time. Can't say if it is a particular lot of blades because I dump the new ones in on what was left in the storage tube. So, in theory, I could have some 5 year old blades still in the tube and just haven't gotten to them yet.
  4. Happy Birthday and now I am jealous. As far as protecting the table, I swear by Johnson's Paste Wax and so do many others. As far as scratches, they will come and just like scars, each has a story to tell. Enjoy your saw, use it and don't worry about blemishes on the table.
  5. That cedar is like Aspen. It is going to suck up finish until finally there will be a coat that looks like a mirror. Couple of more coats should do it. I think a 50/50 cut of shellac to alcohol might have been a good sealer.
  6. Good selection and I really like the reindeer. Glad you did well.
  7. Thanks for showing. Great selection--something for everyone.
  8. I hear different sounds as I move through and across grain, but never to the extent the original query was about. Without driving the saw myself, my guess would be some sort of oscillation being amplified by the blank and the table acting as resonators. Is there a difference with slower blade speed or different tension on the blade? Lots of things to chase here.
  9. I had stick of that stuff when I first started, but my thoughts are it will wear off faster than the time it took to apply. Gave mine to a bandsaw friend who made a bracket to apply it. (Or so he said)
  10. I am not Kevin, but I think Steve Good had the eyeglass nose years ago. Might do a search on his site. I did a couple from 2 x 4 scraps and stained them. Lot of sanding to round the nose.
  11. I'll be interested to see what you think after about 6 birdhouses or compound ornaments.
  12. Great looking round box. Having some of Steve Good's round nativities, I know the work you did to get the rings round. Give yourself a big pat on the back.
  13. Great volume on some good looking work. Will you paint names on the gift tags?
  14. Dave, I feel like I have accomplished nothing. This is a huge collection of great work!! When did you find time to visit the village?
  15. Are we talking standard reverse or ultra-reverse?
  16. I am truly sorry that such a tragic event happened. But, I am thrilled at the work you did. Beautiful piece of wood turned into a beautiful piece of art.
  17. Looks great. Will be in touch soon. My cutting season is just about wrapped.
  18. Trying to get ready for Christmas before the weather shuts me down completely. Since 99% of my work is done on the patio, wind and cold temps have a negative effect on the idiot driving the scroll saw. For reference, all the hanger holes are 1/8". The reindeer you might have seen last year, but they easy to cut and people seem to like them.
  19. you've been a busy little boy there, Kevin. Lots of different art forms there and lots of attention to detail.
  20. That's a good sized "slabber" you caught.
  21. I have WV, but have yet to cut it. Now, I might be more inclined to move it up the cut list. Great work and like the backer contrast.
  22. Wish I could go, but we're taking a fall foliage train trip up the New River that weekend. Hope to see a few pics along the way, and I will try to post some from the trip in the coffee house.
  23. Nothing like a proper stand to take the tension off your shoulders. (And nothing a fresh crappie sandwich)
  24. Looks like 2020/21 firewood there by the fence. Glad your "office" made it through, but loss of shade will hurt.
  25. Great design and cutting.
