    I don't know for sure when I bought my first saw, but I was cutting Cub Scout Pinewood Derby cars for my now 30 year old son and I am on my fourth and final saw now nd treasure my time on the stool behind my Delta, Hitchai, Dewalt and Pegas. Scrolling is my tension relief, my calming influence and the folks driving saws across the world are family.

    I have drawn blood twice on the scroll saw: First time was pure inattention and the second was a tight cut and I had a sudden sneeze when my finger was too close. Hurts like crazy, but doesn't do much damage. On the other hand, I have trimmed a fingernail or two through the years.

    We have had heat and then we did some traveling. I am trying to get a bunch of stuff cut before my cataracts in mid and late July. I will have stuff to paint and glue up post surgery, if I can just get deeper into the cut list. (Silly me, I almost said "to the bottom" of the cut list. We know there is no bottom, just turn the page!)

    Trying to get some stuff done before I get my cataracts addressed, I am making embellishments for some scrabble tile name ornaments. I found the blanks for these at Hobby Lobby which saved me a ton of time sourcing 1/16" ply and cutting it to strips. The snowflakes have two light coats of shaker can white and the holly is handpainted with Unicorn Spit (full strength). Dime added for scale. Cut these in 10 to 14 piece stacks--but they are fragile.

    Excellent pattern and cutting. Got to see her twice in concert. Shame that voice has been silenced.

    Another vote for hot glue. Clamp the stack and dabs of hot glue around the edges. Just make sure the glue doesn't protrude below the bottom layer. (Doesn't slide really good on the table)

    I missed this originally, but I am in awe. Great execution on a great pattern and your usual attention to detail.

    A family member (25F) is getting married in August and wanted something to honor deceased grandparents and others. Steve Good had a pattern for doll furniture that I reworked to make a flat seat. Forstner bit to make shallow candle holder and a friend lasered five names for me. Not sure how they will be displayed--individually or as a group.

    I knew it would look great after seeing the WIP, but it came out better than I thought. The finish really popped.

    Looks like you've done your usual excellent work! Let me guess--cut with Vermont America blades from Joe's Hardware?

    Plywood gives strength. Going with thinner species stock will mean you will have to pay attention to the grain. I have cut hundreds of ornaments from 1/8" ply and there folks here using 1/16". Using good quality Baltic birch ply wakes all the difference as there generally no gaps or patches.

    I done business with them a few times and it is simple, quick and great quality. Not a paid endorsement, but this late in life I don't think I have to worry about amateur status--so if the family would like to sponsor an aging scroller--I would be their spokesman, wear their gear and show the sawdust I made with their product.

    Have a couple of family members who are big Kentucky basketball fans. I made these logos to attach to one of my team spirit frames covered with wildcat fabric. These are approximately 3" wide. Two layers to get all the color margins as close as possible.

    Rolf, just an idea--put an AM radio near the machine tuned to a static part of the band (if such exists in your area) and listen for changes in the static. Not nearly as good as seeing the noise, but you might get lucky that way.

    Page 9 of the Spring issue. My subscription runs until Summer 25. I think the subscriber base is probably strong enough, but there HAD to be a ton of reject coming from lack of newsstand sales.

    Just saw an ad stating that SSW&C would not be on newsstands beginning with the summer issue. Wish them all the luck publishing in today's market for magazines.

    A more expensive saw makes a minor difference in that it is more solid, easier blades changes, etc. I started with a single speed Delta from a pawn shop, moved to a Hitchai, then a Dewalt and now a Pegas. The first two were purchased solely on price and immediate availability. The last two were a combination of price and reputation. Each change had something better or easier than the previous. But, was the saw better--or was I getting better? I did have the Dewalt apart a few times lubing bearings and adjusting the tension rod.

    Except how and where the battery connects, it looks a lot like my Ryobi. The handle is almost identical and I bet that shaft is going to have a hex attachment where it hooks to the motor.
