Hi Barb and welcome. It's nice to have you on this forum. I live in Tennessee so I can't help you with anything in Toronto but there is a place the does mail order for scroll saw ready wood. It's called "Ocooch Hardwoods" and it'd a very good place to order wood from. I learned about them on this forum. I had one order that UPS damaged and I sent them a picture of the damaged boards and in 3 to 4 days the damaged boards was replaced. Also they didn't want me to send the damaged back. Randy I know how you feel. When I first started I couldn't see well enough to use my new saw. I had cataracts so I had to have surgery then I had to get over the surgery so I think it was about three months that put me behind. I watched a lot of You Tube videos (Steve Good became my best friend). There is a lot of things you can do to pass your time, just be creative.

Now all you guys and ladies hold up for a minute. Let's say all your saws broke down and couldn't be fixed most everyone would be running to the store or internet to buy a $1000 saw, me included. At one time when I was new to the hobby I wouldn't have done it but now I would and I only do it for a hobby. Some of you make a fair amount of money sitting in front of one of these dumb saws and I think you want a good saw to do your work on. PS - As they say; (That is my story and I am sticking to it"

Len on second thought I did misspeak as I have not tried using air dried lumber. On some things it might not matter but on others it could. (I think)

Good looking sanding box Larry. How in the world did you measure the amount of air that was going through the holes? That has got me bum fuzzled.

Perry it needs to be kiln dried. I buy mine 13/16th thick and one straight side. It's fairly smooth but I sand it starting with 120 grit then 180 and on to 220 grit. It really doesn't take that much sanding to get it smooth. I am talking about making stand up puzzles. I pay about 150 a board foot down here. I will be different depending on where you live.

Paul I have a shop vac and it will not do it. In fact I wish I had a bigger vac than the 1.5 HP Grizzly I have. Look around on YT , they have several video's on down draft tables. I took ideas from two videos to make mine. Your needs may be different than mine.

Rob Your thinking is good but you really can't put anything in there because there are two baffles in there that help get rid of the dust. Please watch this video for a more clear explanation. At minute 1.37 you will see why you can't put anything.

I have done flocking and it's latex paint that you paint on and put the flocking on while the paint is wet. That is the way I have done it. Just giving you a little history in case you don't know. My point is those flocking fibers are weak and they are sticking to dried latex paint which I think is weak. So yes as others have posted you need to get down to bare wood. You might be able to reflock it. Flocking is very easy to do. If I can do it I know it's easy.

Scott that vacation you took earlier this year may come to bite you in the you know where. I know you step up and over come the shortage of puzzles. When you see all the $$$ signs it will make it easier.

Hey Larry; There are around 60 3/4" holes in the top and around 1 1/2" apart. The 3/4" holes is a choice I made because you can but hold downs that are commercially made. The top is made of popular boards so I could drill the holes on the drill press. Also I had some 3/4" dowel rods so I could make my own clamps and hold downs. I used slides that fully extend and are rated at 100 pounds. Be sure and check out You Tube they have some good ideas you might use.

When I can I have been going outside to sand because of the mess it makes. I decided to build me a down draft sanding but it took a while to figure out what I wanted. Finally on You Tube I saw two videos that I copied to make what I wanted. I can now sit on my stool in the winter and summer and sand in comfort. Maybe all my scroll saw work will look better.

I have several books from Fox XXX I can't remember the rest. But they want me to enlarge some of their patterns. They range from 110% to 150%. Today I tried to enlarge a pattern 110% and it didn't all come out. I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer. Is this something I need to take to a place like Staples?

I agree Paul. The seller has a good rating so if I needed a motor I would buy from this seller.. I have bought things from China but only if they had a very good rating. Never a problem so far.

question about dust bellows hose problem

Welcome Cindy; I don't use the blower that came with my saw. I have a cheap fan blowing across the table into another fan that has a filter on it. The fan that has the filter on it is a box fan that you can get most anywhere for less than $20. the other fad is about $20 also. Here is a picture that explains it better than I can. -
I have this problem when your supposed to cut out the black in a pattern. This pattern would be hard for me to cut because of loosing the blade.

I buy from a company called CPO and they sell reconditioned tools as well as new tools. I bought a reconditioned router from them and it was still not right. I had one at my house the next day. I live about 30 miles east of Nashville so I am not that far but still that is great service. I turned around and shipped the router in the box that my replacement came in. They shipped me a shipping label and UPS came to the house and picked it up. This is the second time they have done this.
