  1. Love it Dick. I'm sure the little bloke will be rapt with that.
  2. You are correct Dan, Lacquer thinners will dissolve Lacquer, so theoretically you do not have to sand for the next coat to adhere, in the same way that Metho will dissolve shellac. However Water will not reconstitute water based finishes and the solvent used in oil type polyurethanes will not dissolve them.
  3. You're the man. Love the painting and colours.
  4. Nice job Iggy.
  5. Love them Marg. The Happy feet is cute
  6. It's not cheap, especially in the pressure packs. I purchase it in 4 litre cans. It does work out not to bad a price as it is usually thinned about 2 to 0ne.
  7. Very nice Dick.
  8. I use a gloss lacquer on all of my toys and puzzles. This gives the best protection, while being quick drying and also allowing the puzzle/toy etc to be wiped over with a damp cloth if it should ever require it.
  9. All most all finishes require sanding between coats to achieve a good smooth or gloss finish. It is not only to give tooth to the following layer, but also to remove any blemishes etc in the lower layer. As to my understanding, Lacquer requires thinners to thin and clean, not metho or turps or water.
  10. Bummer, Sometimes you just can't win a kick in a stampede. More stock for the next show.
  11. A perfect likeness Charlie, Beautiful cutting as well. I liked a couple of his songs, but never had a record.
  12. Unique looking pieces Barb. Very nicely done. Good sale
  13. Using contact cement to join pieces of timber etc, just goes so far against the grain, (Pun intended). Each to their own, but contact cement is not designed for that. It is perfect for laminating, fixing thin sheet materials etc, anywhere you can apply a heavy downward pressure to ensure a good bond. there are a thousand better products for timber to timber joints.
  14. Whenever I design something using font's I try very hard to use Script, Then can just cut from letter to letter without all the stopping and starting.
  15. Very Nice Rodney One of my favourite songs. This a great adaption enjoy.
  16. Thanks all. I posted a pic on my facebook page and have sold 3. Think I'll have make them in secret so I can build stock for the next market Unfortunately the only place to purchase the pine I use from in Kalgoorlie is Bunnings (Big Box Heap) and they are always running out of the sizes I need. So when I find they have it in stock I have to be quick and get quite a few lengths. If you are not there shortly after a pack has been unstrapped you are left with the pieces felled in Sherwood Forest I like adding bright colours to kiddies items. It has taken quite awhile for me to adapt a technique which suits me. The trick I found is not to be too particular with perfection, Use loaded brushes and try one pass, the more you muck around with it, the more you'll muck it up.
  17. I have a great swivel stool in the shed, which my daughter bought me for father's day a few years ago. It is like new, because I can not, for the life of me, get used to sitting at the saw or bench.
  18. I use the same method. I usually use a credit card or protractor to set it up and then use the "Flip the cut" method to check.
  19. I do feel your pain Dave. My stand up puzzles I cut from 30mm timber and some of the small boxes are 45mm. I find every now and again I have to take a deep breath and remind myself not to put pressure on the blade, let the saw do the work. I check every puzzle piece "as I cut it" that it slides nicely into it's adjoining piece from the front and the back and every now and again one is a little tight.
  20. Another nice box Frank. A trick I have used to disguise RS mitres is to insert a contrasting corner. I will try to explain. I made a jig that will hold the project at 45o to my table saw. Drop the blade so it scores the corner about 4 -5mm deep then insert a piece of contrasting timber in the groove. I will try and find a picture of what I mean as I can hardly understand what i just wrote
  21. Great cuttings. I regularly use 3mm mdf painted flat black for backings. Occasionally I will use a piece of coloured felt glued to the MDF.
  22. Nice cuttings.
  23. Beautiful piece Brenda, more striking with the birds. Wonderful
  24. You almost got me in trouble Charlie. I thought that this was such good idea, I'd take a shot of the shed for people, but then I realised I'd better take down a couple of calendars 1st
  25. Another 4 Humpty Dumpty Puzzles. If I added my Piggy ones I'd have breakfast
