  1. Nice set up Charlie. Got me buggered how you can have so much wall space to hang your cuttings on. I can't even find room to hang my hat
  2. Like Rodney, my 1st thought was Oh OH he has reversed this Beautiful piece Charlie. I think i have seen the movie many years ago?
  3. A great gift Dick. One that will be hung in pride of place I'm sure
  4. Nice work Edward. Sure to be loved and appreciated
  5. It's a great technique, I have used it on not quite as detailed projects.
  6. Super stuff Dick. I love intarsia, but have only done few pieces myself.
  7. Thanks Dick and Marg, I should of included a spare box of tissues. As Karen had quite an emotional day with the School kids making a presentation and the staff another . Not to mention a few individual gifts from staff and parents. She will be missed, but we all have to take advantage of opportunities when they are placed in our way.
  8. You will, practice and patience. It took a 5 year apprenticeship and many years of application for me to achieve this, and I am still learning. I have found, over the years, that many people tend to treat the finishing as an aside to making the actual item, with the thought "Now all I have to do is finish it". Every step of the way is important and the finish will only ever be as good as the preparation. I hope this doesn't come over like I have a big head, I am only offering some advice and you kn ow what they say, it is only worth what you pay for it.
  9. Thanks Bill. To be quite honest I had never heard of the term actually being used until the Missus started teaching at a catholic School. I had various sizes of jarrah trim all over the bench trying to get the proportions correct. What I see in my minds eye sometimes does not translate to the real world
  10. Thanks Frank. The Lacquer I purchased. It is an Australian brand "Maxiwood" made by Wattle. The 30% is the amount of shine (reflection in) the finished project with 100% being full gloss. It gives a very nice soft natural look with a glass like feel. I use a spray gun to apply it. It last quite awhile as it is thinned 2 parts thinner to 1 part lacquer prior to spraying. The edge trim around the top of the box I mitred with a hand mitre saw as it is quite delicate being only 3mm thick and Jarrah is very hard and old Jarrah can be brittle. I only use 2nd hand Jarrah. I do have a very nice Dewalt mitre saw but I find doing things by hand on delicate stuff is better. The corner pieces are not mitred they are cut in an L shape on my table saw.
  11. Nice pieces and and good idea, however totally superfluous in the case of beer, as it never lasts long enough to bother putting a cover on the can
  12. So very neat and crisp, they almost look like a rendering .
  13. Those experiments can take quite awhile. In a few more years we should see the results of mine
  14. Good job on all
  15. Thanks to @FrankEV for giving me a nudge along, I finished this tonight as a gift for the school bursar, (Karen) as she is leaving tomorrow. I like cutting things fine This is the first cube type tissue box that I made. There where lots of paper and printouts trying to get the design and dimension looking correct. It is made from 12mm pine with Jarrah trim. Has Royal Blue felt fixed to 3mm ply as a lining and backing to the cut outs.| Finished with 3 coats 30% gloss lacquer Mary and the Southern Cross is the school logo Don't know what I did to the pics this time, they came out small ?
  16. Very nice Eric. Charles Dearing does some nice and some complex patterns. We all do silly things. Only a few weeks ago I went to move one of my tissue boxes, forgetting, or more likely my head was somewhere else, that I had only polished it a few minutes ago and the lacquer was still wet
  17. That I have to agree with Charlie, She was hard work as a youngster, but I wouldn't trade her for the world. I never expect to be rich cutting items, I enjoy it, so this gets rid of items, gives me some cash to purchase more timber and a machine every now and again, and of-course a few beers.
  18. Very pretty Marg. I love the bells. The Bamboo is nice and clear, do you have any problems with it chipping. I have never used it.
  19. So glad to see you back and winning Brenda. the hand basket gets mighty full at times. Take care
  20. Sweet box Dave.
  21. That is an absolutely ripper of a pattern. No mistaking who it is. The most disliked bloke in movies after the "Cowboys" He sure makes a good baddy. The cutting is also very nice Charlie
  22. You certainly have an eclectic range. Should have no problems getting rid of them and coming home with a fistful of cash. All look nicely cut.
  23. Thanks Marg, They sure did, as we were setting up another stall holder grabbed both. I may make another couple and see if they go. They were just a method getting ride of the 2 VW's I had sitting around. May prove to be great seller.
  24. Couldn't think of more pleasant way to spend my time, sorting free timber. Good win
  25. I like that Rod, Very nice and colourful. Sure to be appreciated.
