  1. Oiling is a method I use for outside furniture, Usually I thin Boiled Linseed oil 50 % with turps and apply, let it soak in for a day or so and reapply, then after another couple of days use a full strength linseed oil. Once that has dried two or three coats of polyurethane gloss.. Lacquer wont take as well it is not oil based. Shellac should as to do French Polishing it is mixed with linseed oil. Can't help with the other oils sorry.
  2. Thanks heaps. I never realised I did it in the shape of an eye until you just pointed it out
  3. I made this for my wife a few years ago. She is a sci fi nut. Especially likes Star trek and Stargate., Radiata Pine, Tasmanian Oak bands and globe, Jarrah symbols
  4. I sure can appreciate the cutting of that puzzle. Not for me though, especially the putting it together. It takes me longer to put the kiddies puzzles together, that I make, than cut them.
  5. Beautiful work on the pieces and the table Dave. I have a similar table I made as an apprentice piece, veneered in different timbers, but I purchased the chess set
  6. I have a small spray booth set up in the corner of my shed. All contact over spray and fumes are extracted with a fan.
  7. Absolutely beautiful Barb. I have been thinking about that Humming bird puzzle for a while.
  8. Good to hear that the War Office is on the mend Bobby. Always two sides to every coin, she will be able to run you down now Seriously, wishing her all the best and a super fast recovery mate.
  9. I like them all, the cat portrait is nice, but the ones that really stand out are the red back spiders. I could have some fun with those
  10. I have only designed a few fret patterns, but I set myself the task of making them with as few entrance holes as possible. I believe this ads another level of enjoyment to the cutting process.
  11. If you have the space and can afford it, I'd keep both. I have and EX21 and an old Dewalt, but would like another saw as I hate not having the right tool for the job when I need it.
  12. Very Nice Dave
  13. My Missus is the same Charley. When I used to get those magazines I'd show her a nice fretwork piece and those clocks in particular. She'd call them "Foldy Dolls" Unnecessary items that required more work than they should to keep them looking nice. Dust collectors. Needless to say our house is devoid of fretwork.
  14. Looks good Kev. I love mucking about with patterns etc and using them for what they are not intended

You did a good job on the paint Dan. It all looks good. I have made crackle paint, accidentally and unwanted I made a Barbie sized doll house and painted it semi gloss white with acrylic paint. A few days later I gave it two coats of gloss lacquer. About a month later the customer asked if I could do something about her "Crackle Painted Dolls house. Sand the whole thing down coat with flat white and two coats of gloss lacquer and all was well. If you use a paint with a gloss finish it has to dry for at least a week before coating with lacquer and then only a thin 1st coat. Apparently the additives that make it gloss react with thinners. Totally of topic.
  16. I believe so. I haven't gone as far as digitising the pieces and then fitting them in the star star shape, but the shape of the pieces certainly suggests that they will fit in the star. Also the grain direction does not match on the pieces in the pentagon, suggesting that they have been cut from another shape. The grain looks suspiciously like the star.
  17. You sure belted that one over the stands mate. Absolutely beautiful Truly love the softening of the edges
  18. Super nice toy Bob. So great to hear of a nipper actually wanting something to play and use their imagination with that's not digital. that's one that will be passed along.
  19. I can't help much, but because of a number of Editing programmes not printing accurately to scale, I usually import my drawing etc into Publisher, with a grid, size it there and print. Always spot on.
  20. Nice pattern and cutting. unfortunately I think this was one of the worst westerns I have ever seen.
  21. Very nice, I love the coloured lights behind the creeper.
  22. The top one is far more striking IMHO.
  23. I like the composition Kev, Using the sprocket as a frame, good stuff. My patterns are like yours, I do enough so I know what I'm doing and that's where they end.
