  1. I have cut plexiglass / plastic cardboard. Branches and log slices < 2 inches. And once an aluminum 1/8 inch. But I re-read the question "most often" cut.
  2. Yea pretty patterns falling. Next month use the pattern of the month. have a script that does it based on likes of bragging rights. But limit it to 10 sec for each new page accessed. Also do it based on location of users. Below equator is what I am thinking. More ideas... Each month choose a different wood type Maple. beech, ash, walnut ..... leafs for fall season? Hearts for valentines day..... Okay it seems that I have used some of my creativity. I need to save some for the rest of the holiday projects.
  3. It looks gorgeous. Sizing it to the chair it seems 14" or so. Yep alot of work.
  4. We did a gift exchange at work for about 20 of us. This was a virtual meeting on computers. The concept was to order from Amazon and keep it under $35. But I am a non-conformist. I said I would make something. The company logo is a Big R, and our brand is a light bulb "iwatt" is the brand. Notice the "iw" as the filiament in the bulb. We design integrated circuits (chips). I obtained some silicon wafers and cut a small circle that fits inside the light bulb. Inliad "yellow heart" into "purple heart". I still need to put a finish on it.
  5. It should make you at least one friend when they get it.
  6. I am having hard time figuring out what to make for white elephant gift exchange. Virtual gift exchange as like on line 3.5 hour meeting.
  7. The cones might be a good hat for gnomes.
  8. I was playing around (fun) and decided to take a 2x2 and try to make a christmas decorations. Here are my failed (thud) experiments. i set the saw at angle 10 deg. Cut a tiny circle of 1/8 inch diameter about 1 inch from the end. Then cut another circle at 1/2 in diameter over the 1/8 circle. My attempt failed to have perfect stacked cones. But I can make a christmas tree. Some other experiments... 3d cowboy boot.. well the center looks more like a snow boot. I used the sides from the snow boot and shaped them for left and right thin boots. Cones...Notice the 2 cones get cut from alternate sides to save wood. I took the solid cones and painted it like a teepee, and silver paint for a bell. Then got my boots stained. And this was a tiny hat made from BB ply. I tried to belt sand the front and back to get that dip. Have a great thanksgiving. Me. Mark Eason
  9. 30" curve tool. The key for Cowboy hats. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004IXML16/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 Oh would it be bad to request a change the presents from the 5 scroll blades for the 11 rolls of tape?
  10. Oh too funny... Uses: Firewood.... for intarsia.. Fireman's Hat . Flat brims are easy. And for the other picture... Ostrich boots.. Me. Mark Eason
  11. Ohhh southwest design. That is better than the love bus. The light brown dove tails look pretty tricky. How many did you throw out?
  12. Ray, My machine is hawk. I do what you do. Set tension enough not to break the blade. In fact just a tad less. This was the fix #1. Fix #2 was use pegas mgt blades. Observation of dull blades to begin with is also important. Some blades just have differences. Different woods make blades do different things. Purple heart cuts at different angles that yellow heart. I complained about blade wondering when I was cutting yellow heart 1/4 inch. I was using non pegas blades. 2nd quality down from top. The blade just would not cut going right. The blade would twist but still not cut a curve. These were not tight turns. I increased tension it helped a bit. I still have 144 of those blades. But going to highest quality blades made more improvement. Any 1/4 thick wood becomes squirrely. Including BB ply. When I cut 3/4" wood much less tracking issues. Also cut slower, my speed knob is about 30%. Ok that is what this village taught me. Obviously you milage may vary. Me. Mark Eason
  13. The leapard gives the viewer the mysteriousness of cats in shadows. Very nice idea. I have a stray cat that watches me at night when I am using my telescope always stays in the shadows. I get this feeling I am being watched but don't see him. I know he is somewhere.
  14. how about a clump for a name.
  15. so you have enough space for 2 more drill presses and another scroll saw.
  16. Dang me dang me take a rope and hang me..... My Dad used to play that song..
  17. If your just doing 90 deg angles, there are various less expensive drill guides. Like for drill tapping guides. But if you need precision angles for bowls then hanging if from rafters might not be good. Now the ebay link is interesting, what if we could mount the rods on the scroll saw arm and use the scrollsaw table for setting drill angles. Of course the mounting has to be temporary and easy to do. Me. Mark Eason
  18. So my brother said he wanted a black walnut cowboy hat. How can I say no? He lives 1300 miles away in Texas. I sent him the curve tool to wrap around his head. He emailed me the scanned tool result. I took that scan into inkscan and started the project. He requested a blank top. This took me about 19 hrs. It is slightly darker than my other black walnut hat. Also a bit bigger. Everyone has a different head size. Here is a couple of pics showing before / after finishing step. Armour Arm Seal was used. Me. Mark Eason
  19. Slight side step topic.. With all this dissussion, it reminds me to be thankful for @OCtoolguy for helping me buy a used Hawk. 26". I did not know a hawk was industrial grade machine. Used at $400, 2 years ago. I think the 26" allowed me to be a bit more creative. But not always needed. The drill press is now a limiting factor. Throat distance becomes an issue on bowls. Oops that is a different post topic. These machine discussions also reminds me to wax the table. So I just did. Me. Mark Eason
  20. It is really difficult to put the smoke back in.
  21. My hat brim is 0.125 inch thick and is about 18 inches from edge to edge.
  22. Yea the "sketchy sailing" might do well in Florida as long as the water is calm. That is No huricanes clouds in the picture. Wiley is always liked good cartoons after school. But I like cats so the leapord is my favorite.
  23. Update... I have had my Vyper chair for quite a while now. I sit in it over 3 hr at a time without my but going numb. I would recommend the screw adjustment version due to it going a bit lower. My bench is a bit higher so the chair I got works well. Now I ran across a pretty interesting chair called catperch. It is used for telescope viewing. But I think it would be good for scrollsawing also. The mini version for scrollsawing. https://www.wood-wonders.com/catsperch-chairs/ Plans or kits or fully assembled are available. Me. Mark Eason
  24. But your running #5 blades. I found #1 mgt batch had 3 blades dulled. Also pushing blades really depends on project. Some projects are better to use for an optimal blade. Other projects are not critical if it does not track the line as well.
  25. My observations are... -when I have to put more pressure to feed wood into the cut. -about 40min of countinous cutting with 0.75 inch thick wood with #1 mgt. -thinner blades dull faster. -when blades don't cut around corners, right vs left turns act different. This can also be low tension. -tight turns dull blades really fast. -harder or softer woods will change above conditions. .. every blade shows a slightly different angle to cut straight. When I install a new blade and the angle is way different it is usually a dull brand new blade. It happens sometimes. Be aware of bad batches also. I usually fight the new dull blade for a couple of inches and then decide to change it. :: I would be very interested in more experience users opinions.
