  1. I decided to try @alexfox newest Make Love Not War. For my use I only needed the top layer on a backer. But I had to downsize to 2.75inches wide. This made the branches really thin. I used a 2/0 spiral going slow. I did the internal letter first. I forgot to drill an "O". It was too late to drill it. So I left it alone. Next I did the letters. There was just enough space between the letters and ribbon outline for the 2/0 spiral. It shows i need more practice with the spirals. Oh it is on 1/8" thick Maple. Not plywood. To enhance the 3D effect, I cut outer edge at 45 deg. with #1mgt. Very difficult. I had to pay extra attention. I did this last. This is unfinished. The backer still has a few weeks to be finished. The attached 3 pics show black walnut back, maple back and a pic with pattern still on. The patterns shows smoke marks from using a flame to get the fuzzies off.
  2. Since Ray @OCtoolguy showed his mistake and a graceful recovery I decided to show my ooops. I want advice on #2 please. I am building just another hat. Black walnut. Ooops. 1) big hole was a bit too big for the crown. I miss marked which line to go with. Recovery: add another ring to the crown (bowl). This made the hat taller. Fix procedures: Think. 2) As I was sanding the outside of the bowl the glued pieces cracked at the thin spot where the drill hole is. Recovery: So I put super glue on the inside. This helped fix the crack but will look bad. See the "added" bottom ring is not sanded yet. Fix procedures.. A) dont have drill holes line up. stager drill hole. B) Don't sand outer bowl until bottom is glued on. In my case the top. Please , I would like opinions. The hat is not done yet... but here is a fit check of brim to crown. The crack is in the back. Me. Mark
  3. oh your recovery seemed pretty good. I like this kind topic. how to recover gracefully from a bad oops.
  4. Good job. I am glad the beer is not light beer. It is just her finger tip that is lit up. Me. Mark Eason
  5. nice trees in the night. i had to think about how shadows would appear at night. you might add "winter" since there is no apparent leaves. Me. Mark Eason

    Guitar

oh nice... but the name fender should be your name since you made it. Another post was what to do with those tiny wires that go around the packaged scrollsaw blades. you can use those thin wires as your guitar strings. Me. Mark Eason
  7. nice sharp crisp. looking good. add another layer on top for each scene.. in this order. ZIP, HMMM, KAPOW, WELL THEN, LETS GO, THWAPP. or something like those. Me. Mark Eason
  8. Ray, yep pictures proove it happened. Is there a possibility of unglueing, heat gun, acetone? remove 2 layers , replace stained, then reglue? easy way out is stain or paint every other layer dark brown or black. might be ok. Me. Mark Eason
  9. This a is a quick way to show cut rings to reverse stack to make a bowl. Or in this case a crown to a cowboy hat. This is black walnut 3/4 inch cut at 9 degree angle. 0.125 inch thick rings. Some times I call them slices. You can zoom into the picture and see how thin the cuts are. Me. Mark Eason
  10. Dave, Yes another pleasing project. Great contrasting maple trim. And i can not find the grain issue. I guess I need a trained eye. Me. Mark Eason
  11. Dick, i agree stories and gifts are great. I must be getting of age. A maple leaf for a native american? Must be in maple sap area. Vermont? But I do like maple leafs. Me. Mark Eason
  12. Ray, I was going to message you about what your building. Now I know a 1970s hippie candy bowl. Me. Mark Eason
  13. cool, nice font on "The 2nd ammendment" Me. Mark Eason
  14. Tim That is a nice 1 acre garden at least it looks like an ancre. A garden will keep you busy during the spring. You did not have much time for making cowboy hats.
  15. thank you for the update. if you can think of how us scrollsawers can help, let us know. When and if you get into a safer place let us know also. If you need funds for a new saw. I am sure we can provide that also. Me. Mark Eason
  16. Ricky Skags did a song with those lyrics. But I think he is still alive. John Denver but he died more than 5 years ago. Of course I'm going by memory and have not searched online. As for 8 tracks I have repaired many of these that got too tight to play.
  17. nice flowing lake ripples using wood grain. High sun with thin clouds. Very nice.
  18. So does it smell like gingerbread? nice choice of colored wood that is so beautiful. It looks like you gingerly (smoothly) made the curves just right. Gorgeous. Niiiiiiice.
  19. No need to buy anything. A segmented bowl? Picket fence looking. How about little daisies on top of each picket fence segment. A scrollsaw board to bowl?
  20. Frank, That is great that you can get new items. They make a lot of dust fast. The shop vac port helps alot but does not suck all the dust from top part of the spindle. Also a sandpaper eraser from harbor freight helps alot to clean the spindles. see attach pic. The big diameter spindles will grab pieces and send them flying. But you wont have to go far to get them.
  21. i think Judy was on the jetsons. But these cuttings of Fred and Barney look excellent.
  22. ok so next series is Jazy Jags.
  23. Is the next series going to be cherry chevys?
  24. nice arangement. I like southwest art. The Kokopelli was a good choice. My opinion is the basket behind the eagle needs to be upgraded with a scroll saw bowl. Or a tall vase with southwestern feel. I like it. Me. Mark Eason
  25. might consider hanging ornaments with fishing line to allow the them to spin. I was going to say with fishing swivels, but those would get gunked up.
