  1. Ok this got my attention. Is that an angle cut "relief" or is the a spacer backing? Excellent coloring. I like the fall leaves yellow tint. That is cool.
  2. This brings up a memory of a toy I made out of a metal bandaid container. 1983. The flip top ones. I put 5 push buttons on top. A 9v battery inside. Small circuit (555 timer) that generated tones to a speaker also in the box. My toddler liked that toy for a few years. Stupid little idea did good. Oops I am telling old stories again. Am I getting old?
  3. Can I suggest to change the "lazy" to creative? Also note that you were productive. It is important to mental well being to take a break of normal work. Do something different. You might find that some of those might lead to more customers. Or bettet yet teaching the same kids later about scrollsawing. My favorite is the helicopter.
  4. item 4.... mcmaster carr.
  5. here is pic from my order. I ordered #60 drill bits...the part numbers are shown.. I did not get #68. you might use keywords for extended. After I recieved my order I found this place with cheaper cost for colbalt 1 5/8" jobber size. But not extended length. https://www.drillbitwarehouse.com/store/p/31--60-m42-cobalt-wire-gauge-sizes-packs-of-12
  6. in previous pics... the top hex chuck went bad. Press fit into hollow tube. wobbles bad. the bottom 2 are new chucks. No wobble. solid shank. $12.00 ea. My previous bits measured 1 inch total. New bits are 1 5/8". Also I bought 2.25 inch bits. For 1 inch thick wood at 45 deg angle you need at least 1.41" drill bit. So a 2.25" should cover it. They also have 6" but I did not get that. Hope this clears up some confusion. If @OCtoolguy gets confused then others will be confused also.
  7. It happends that my hex shank chuck started wobbling really bad. so i ordered a non hex shank chuck from Mcmaster carr. Max size is #60 ga. == 0.04". See pics. Then i was playing with hex shank bit to see if re-positioning is reduced wobble. Nope. But the hex shank portion is a press fit. If I take the hex shank off then I can find a position that has less wobble. I tried re pressing the hex shank on but wobbles alot. I'm throwing away the hex shank portion. I also bought longer bits. Since I stack drill to inlay I wanted longer bits. Especially when drilling at 45deg. Yes. I had to have something better. one of my drill bits broke in the wood. Can not grab it to pull it out. When making bowls. It is better to drill 2nd hole then carefull scroll saw up to the broken drill bit. Try to saw it free. I also got better quality drill bits. Colbalt.
  8. I don't do this often. But you can drag a picture into google search bar (chose find picture icon first). This came up. . . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254033039303?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338722076&customid=&toolid=10050&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAAAkGV1FO7arze3990TT2RVpzN9S%2BDxBKsnswfE%2B6GbDdItiq3trQR3AC4IRiJ%2Bm20DRC48%2FfCGiNM1Y%2Fzvb4EMjYEoM%2B%2FOouu1LMLaQXoX43E9z%2FrycV0FaQlPDdynH2VqNbA7Ky9JEEiTnCpgytV7Z%2BVJATNNnGALnK%2Fs2pK6vQcJN%2BzvhNXvDkyz%2BPCO9Zyp4w%3D%3D
  9. Aria's big blue tractor. Kinda has a nice ring to it.
  10. what happened to 4 score and 7 seven years
  11. You might be able to be hired for classroom for teaching / demo scrollsaw techniques. Bring the feild trip to the outdoor class.
  12. Pretty nice belt buckle you made. Or you can attach it to a hat.
  13. But the bean counters say since people don't use the upper half we can reduce cost. And charge the same or more.
  14. Us humans seem to add complexity to everything. Look how many reaponses to attaching patterns. Getting lines on a piece of wood has so many methods. Responses to blade questions are many. We humans Especially any engineers like Me make things complicated. Me. Mark Eason
  15. I always thought about number of inches I am cutting. But the other factors are thickness. The biggest factor is how many really tight turns. If I go thru a tight turn I notice a significant dulling. So technique is important on tight turns. Like go slow. Motor speed and feed rate.
  16. Final note... So with other messages and my observations here is some lessons learned... 1) Use good quality wood. Try not to use glue ups. 2) if you use glue ups then make sure the bottom and top is planed flat. Recycled wood takes effort. 3) reduce glue squeeze between slices. Lots of youtube videos that show technques. I will try painters tape next project. And less glue. 4) Any shape can be a bowl. But sharp corners take extra effort for sanding. 5) I think I will try sanding 2 or 3 rings glued together instead of all rings at 1 time. 6) wall thickness does not have to be minimum. 7) And do not combine project topics into a single post. Bowls and bottle stoppers should be separated with different posts. 8 . always request critique. I hope this will increase the feedback so I can learn faster. 9) pick a slow day to post so it show up on "all activity" longer. A technique for more feedback ? Thanks @octoolguy for the messages and critique. Me. Mark Eason
  17. Good patriotic project. Was the stars hard? The cuts look good and consistent. Me. Mark Eason
  18. nice setup. I see you have eyes and nose protection always handy. Nice drawers for tools.
  19. I almost put them on violin cutting. Any string instrument. Also they would be good for hot wire styfoam cutter. A 9v batterry as a power source.
  20. get printable clear sticky sheets and make your own sticker with your printer.
  21. This is me learning. Your feedback is always welcome. In fact I like the relief better. Me. Mark Eason.
  22. Dave Monk is that a relief technique? That looks great.
  23. Yes the 25 deg gives it a better emphasis of 3d. You can use it on letters on plaques. Left side of plaque with right tilt, and on the right side of plaque left tilt. So when viewing the plaque the viewer see emphasized perpective. How are you going to use this technique? Me. Mark Eason
  24. Looks very elegant and classy. To me the live edge belongs there. Great call to leave it on. Me. Mark Eason
  25. Baking soda and CA glue set up really fast. See youtube link below. I read somewhere that if you do 50/50 mix with sawdust you gain working time.
