  1. A very nice cross. You did a fabulous job on it. Thanks for sharing it with us Dick heppnerguy
  2. Roly, Fun stuff.. I have made a few Eiffel Towers and I would like to make a suggestion that I think you will enjoy. Take your pattern and do a compound cut with it. You will really enjoy how it comes out. I hope you understand what i am saying here.. take the pattern and cut it once on the face and then one more time on the 90 degree. Try it Dick heppnerguy
  3. I need to thank Hans for inspiring me to challenge myself and stop over looking some patterns just because they have a lot of holes to cut. Because of Han's willingness to tackle the tougher projects, and they all are so extraordinary, I choose this pattern by Rick and Karen Longabaugh to cut for my wife. Although I did not count the cuts, I believe it to be somewhere around 2000. It took me three days in the shop, ( while working on three other projects to complete it ). I cut it from Juniper. I am curious to find out if anyone else has cut any Juniper before. I was not sure how it would cut and held my breath with the anticipation that about the time I finished my cuts, it would break. but I got lucky. I found out that no matter how many cuts a piece has or how small they are, it still is only one cut at a time and really no more difficult than any other piece. Just takes longer to do Dick heppnerguy
  4. It is a cool car and now it has come back to life to live on your wall. Great job.. fun thing to cut Dick heppnerguy
  5. cute little boxes, Fay. you did a really nice job with them Dick heppnerguy
  6. A really cool idea. Way to go Perk Dick heppnerguy
  7. I too have a time now and then when my saw doesn't seem to want to life all the way and a quick 'on/off' takes care of it. It really hasn't bothered me much though. As far as tightening the back bolt goes, I have read that this will hold up the arm for you but I HAVE READ THAT DOING SO IS HARD ON THE BEARING AND NOT A GOOD IDEA. I, like many others, just use a 2 X 4 about 10 inches long to hold up my saw arm and it works perfect for me and costs nothing Dick heppnerguy
  8. you might also explore the 'sharing your Facebook page' area in the forum. A few good ideas are expressed there too Dick heppnerguy
  9. Dennis, I hope you do get into the scrolling, It will be a compilment to go along with your turning . There are several people here that also so turn wood on a lathe. Log on often and you will get to know us and we you very soon. this is a friendly group here and your wife will probably be wanting to gab with some of the people here too, as when you start talking about them, your wife will probably start to think she might just enjoy that person too. Hope to see you a lot here. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Becky, my suggestion would be to start with some rather simple patterns and when you are thinking "I can do this.. and it is fun too" , then it is time to push the envelope and try something a little more difficult. Pretty soon you will be confident to try anything you want. Don't rush things and be careful not to try to push the blade to side when you need to go another direction. Let the blade do the work by aligning your cut to the front of the blade. Welcome to The Village, Don't be shy about posting a project you have made here. Everyone of us started out from the beginning and we understand the difficulties that you may run into from time to time because we all are still learning, every day. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Can't lose when you are honoring mom. nice additions to a craft fair. Should sell well, I think Dick heppnerguy
  12. I am also considering an dremel for shaping not sure about routering with one. I too would enjoy seeing how this works. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Thank you everyone for your votes of confidence and the nice comments. I am starting to venture into some more intriqet work and this one just stood out to me. I would have liked the pattern but probably not ventured onto cutting it, before now. Fun to challenge ones self every once in awhile. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Nice project, and a fun one too. Glad you undertook this one because it brought some pleasure to me just to see it Dick heppnerguy
  15. When i got on line this morning, I saw the new pattern of Grampa's named 'the boss'/ I thought is was the perfect pattern to cut since it fits perfect for tomorrow, which is Good Friday, which represents the day Our Lord was crucified for our sins. The expression on Jesus's face seems to be saying," I died for you, but I am not sure you even care" I hope I did the pattern some justice. Dick heppnerguy.
  16. nice heart pattern and cut. keep bringing us your wonderful work to see Dick heppnerguy
  17. stars for wood. good exchange and keeps you out of trouble at the same time. I would do the same thing if the wood was a good enough exchange for my time. Dick heppnerguy
  18. I am with you. I too am not interested in participating in craft shows because I am not interested in making a lot of pieces in hopes that I sell some of them. I do have a Facebook page where I offer things for sale but I only make them upon request I love doing what I do and by selling the ones I do, I am also bringing in enough money to buy materials and supplies that I need to take care of my needs. Thank you for the link. Continue to do the great work that you are doing. I will post my box as soon as I finish it so you can see how you have been an influence to me. Dick heppnerguy
  19. I really enjoy the Eiffel Tower. I have made a few compound cut ones but nothing like this, not even close. I have enjoyed the things you make and post and all the detailed and complicated pieces that you tackle. You have influenced me so much that yesterday I started a box that has more holes and consistently smaller cuts than I have tackled before. I will post it, if I get it finished. your piece is so beautiful. Are you interested in giving any of us the address to the sight you downloaded this from ? Dick heppnerguy
  20. Not only is this a beautiful tribute to your dear friend but also it is a story box too. As I look at your inlays, it tells my a lot about who he was and what he enjoyed in his life. Wonderful for many reasons Dick heppnerguy
  21. A fantastic item and I love the technique you used. i will have to give that a shot. Do you have a backer board behind it ? this is different than any piece I an remember seeing and I really like it. Dick heppnerguy
  22. that is an action piece. I like the design and font. Looks like it should be a quick go.. and scrap wood too. Doesn't get any better than that. Dick heppnerguy
  23. Free hand puzzle cutting is by far the most challenging and interesting too. You did a really great job with it Dick heppnerguy
  24. Kevin, Why are you making so many stars ? must be one heck of a project you are doing. they look really good. Dick heppnerguy
  25. you have been busy Fay. I enjoy seeing the things you make. It is nice to see how much you are enjoying that new saw of yours. Dick heppnerguy
