Eric, I started making patterns a few years ago and I was surprisingly pleased with the results on some and no much on others. The secret to getting exactly what you want is like learning to scroll...the more you do it the more natural it becomes. I set my pattern making aside and have never gone back to trying them again. Wood portrait patterns are my favorite and I have done several of them and with some pretty good results, I think but it takes me along time to make them, only because I have not taken the time to do enough of them on a continual basis. So that said, I know it is completely my own lack of taking time to learn that process, that I am not a portrait pattern maker today. Only myself to blame. Stay at it. make another pattern tomorrow and see if it comes out as well as this one.
