  10. Nice job. He is sure to love it!
  11. They all look great Ralph! It’s wonderful that you used rescued wood.
  12. Unfortunately, people don’t appreciate the time and effort we put into a project. They just see that they like it. They don’t care that it took so many hours to cut, assemble and finish.
  13. Looks good!
  14. And they look like crap! I have never let anything leave my shop without a finish on it!
  15. I have shown these in the past. Both were made several years ago, but these are my favorite Dirk Boelman Christmas projects. First is Santa’s workshop portrait. Cut from 1/8 Baltic birch plywood with a Mahogany ply backer. Handcrafted pine frame. Above Mrs Santa is a wall clock. That clock comes to life as the second project. The clock is cut from solid Cherry and Walnut with Maple for the icicles. Elves and Santa in the windows are also Maple. The roof pillars are compound cut out of pine. The clock movement chimes every hour and every fifteen minutes. It has a swinging pendulum with elves swinging on the pendulum rod.
  16. In the old days when I used Danish oil, I still used spray lacquer as a topcoat. I never had a problem with adhesion.
  17. Great work Charlie! You always seem to find the right board for each project!
  18. Hey Gary, I always apply a top coat. I always use rattle can lacquer. I’ve found that Minwax spray lacquer dries fast. Two coats 30 minutes apart each side works real well. I can package and ship the next day without any smell.
  19. You did an excellent job on them Melanie! I do miss Dirk. I have cut many projects by Him. I’ll post two of my favorite Christmas projects designed by Dirk as soon as I get them out of the attic.
  20. Very nice Judy, I’m sure they all will get a kick out of it!
  21. I’m not a fan of formulas. Say Bob takes three hours to cut his project. He bought his lumber for the project at retail. Now, Bill can cut the same project in 45 minutes, and buys his lumber wholesale. If they use the same formula, guess who’s will sell? the way I price is, I look at the item and decide what I would pay for it. Then if I’m going to sell it on my Etsy store, I’ll add what Etsy charges me. Now for friends and family, I always tell them I will give them a good deal. This tells them that yes, I’m going to charge them. For the most part, they are willing to pay full price anyway because they already know what is involved to make the item.
  22. I definitely would use FD UR blades. A size 1 for all the fret work and a size 3 for the letters. I use these all the time for this type of work.
  23. They look great Don, you did a very nice job!
  24. Nice!
