Looks great Dick. I just finished up my first attempt of carving also. I didn't use any knives or chisels. I used a rotary tool with burrs. I guess that is called carving. The problem I had is was trying to sand out my cutting. I totally understand the feeling of the heat.
I have a Pegas Band saw. Sure wish you could test drive one before you made the purchase. I do a lot of compound cutting of chess pieces. There is no way I can cut them with my band saw. It will not turn sharp enough. I love it for my intarsia projects. It will cut thick hard hard wood with ease. I do enough intarsia so it is well worth it even if that is all I use it for. On my scroll saw I have a tendency to push sideways a bit so my pieces end up a bit out of square. I have gotten very frustrated with Pegas because blades and bearings have been a real issue getting. I waited over six months to get #7 bearings. I bought mine from Denny and would highly recommend him if you decide to pull the trigger.
I did not cut where the flower fit in at an angle. There are 3 pieces of 1/4". The top piece I cut to fit the intarsia into, the second piece is solid and the third I scrolled the message into and glued them all together.
A client commissioned me to make a jewerly box for his wife for their anniversary. He gave me a picture of some hibiscus he wanted inlayed into the top which I made a pattern for. He also wanted the message put under the lid. I got it done way ahead of schedule but this time of year I start getting super busy with shows.
https://www.pswood.com/super-sharps-scroll-saw-blades/ When using pegas blades for inlays I don't feel like I can turn clockwise as sharp as counter clockwise. With super sharps I feel I can turn as sharp in both directions. It may be all in my head. The Super Sharps are expensive but for me they are worth it for what I am using them for.
I have a Pegas and a Hegner. I use Pegas blades most of the time but use Super Sharps when doing inlays. I very seldom break a blade on my Pegas but do more often on my Hegner. Where were you Pegas blades breaking?
