    About 20 years ago I was in Guatemala for a week working at an orphanage. We went into town, Antigua, one day to buy some souvenirs and eat. I bought a small handmade change purse to give to a girl named Gladys who was sort of transitioning from living at the orphanage since she was 7, to working as a social worker on staff of the orphanage. On the last night we were there she handed me a big sack full of nice things she had bought for me and every member of my family. I can't put into words how humbling it was to reach in my pocket and pull out the dinky little change purse to hand to her. When I told one of the missionaries there the story he smiled and said, "Kind of like having your feet washed by Jesus, huh?" I'll never forget it.

    I commented on this antique cast iron duck/boot scraper that was at a sweet elderly lady's home on my meals on wheels' route several months ago. This week she told me that since she wasn't able to come outside and enjoy it anymore she'd love for me to have it. I told her no at first but could tell she really wanted me to have it, and I really loved it so I gave in. I wanted to cut something for her so I chose this awesome pattern of Botas Helder, because it's sort of like bringing some of the outdoors inside. A missionary friend of mine put it well when he said, "Having a poor or elderly person do something for you is like having your feet washed by Jesus." Quite humbling.

    If you're interested in cutting a portrait of Kris, here's another pattern I made a while back. It's a bit more challenging but I like it better.

    Yeah, in this day and time guns are a touchy subject. As a youth I had so much fun with my 22 rifle I can't imagine not having all the great memories. I lived in an old coal mining town. We had so much fun shooting cans and bottles we'd thrown in old coal mining ponds before they could sink. The last one to get a shot on a can before it sank was the winner. Regardless of the subject you did a marvelous job on that, especially the painting.

    Also, personally I wouldn’t worry about the insert unless you’re planning on cutting very small pieces. Mine is wallowed out a bit from me putting too much pressure left or and I don’t notice that it affects me at all. Others may disagree.

    My Hegner came from Advanced Machinery with the blade off center like that. They advised me to check the area I have circled to see if it appeared to have shifted in shipping. I could see it had by the paint seal being broken. There is either 1 or 2 bolts underneath that can be loosened to realign this.

    It's been quite a while since I've done a portrait and I had Kris on my mind so I did sort of a minimal one of him. Done on a pallet board I had laying around.

    I felt the same way, but after watching the video it was fairly easy. I've never had two come out exactly alike but that's part of the fun of it.

    For anyone who hasn't seen these, they are really fun. I did these three last night for grandkids. They look much better actual "tiny" size than blown up. I included the video demonstration.

    No, I just used clip art of a classical acoustic guitar. I rushed the whole process and it’s very rough work but if you’ve seen Trigger, that probably made it more realistic.

    I used a piece of faux sea glass as a nod to Willie’s Christmas song, “Pretty Paper. “ Of course the guitar is Willie’s timeworn Martin, “Trigger.”

    We went to the beach, Cape San Blas, Florida, for the week of Thanksgiving. This was our fourth trip there as a family and it's like a little time in Heaven. My grandkids learned that I loved Kitten Paw shells. Between what I picked up and what they all gave me I wound up with over 100. I've never found a piece of real sea glass.

    I've started making some faux sea glass with my rock tumbler, so I also made some fake drift wood with my scroll saw and sanders to make this cool Christmas Ornament. Very fun new offshoot of the hobby.
