This little guy started life as a Sue Mey pattern, number NW4195 JOY GNOME I cut a tree about 1/8 inch larger than the original pattern to place behind the Gnome tree, and then I glued on a piece of silver glitter paper. I then decided to make our little friend 2 dimentional buy putting a second layer of wood on the hat, gloves, and shoes. I finished it off with a string of "Rice Lites" that I bought on AMAZON, I used hot glue to keep them in place, turned on the switch and viloa. So, Ann Marie decided that he should be on smething seasonal and off to her quilting room she went, you can see the results, it looked great. Well Ann Marie showed it to one her friends, and it sold on the spot. I'm trying to finish another one quickly, because we are hosting all the little ones for a Christmas Party on Sunday afternoon and we know they will get a big kick out of them. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my VILLAGE family. Hopefully, you will get the chance to share some times with the ones you love. Rick

Wichman, sorry, I couldn't find your given name, THANK YOU sooo much for the advice on checking the view. Somehow, these chubby little fingers of mine must have hit the wrong key and I proceded to blame every electronic device in the world for the trouble that I caused. I can now get back to work on the last personalized ornaments for the year. Oh, and thanks for the link to the help channel, I will be looking for some information on why the lower corner arrow won't increase the size of my screen. I hope I can be of assistance to you somehow. Rick

Getting Old Sucks!
Hudson River Rick replied to Greatgrandpawrichard's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Hey Dick, the only thing worse than getting old, is NOT getting old. Rick -
Good morning to everyone. This is in reference to my inkscape go wacky on me, I am going to try to show you what my screen looks like when I try to open a new or previous page. I am also going to try to paste a message that I put on the other scroll saw sites. I wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS !!! Hi to you all. Can anyone help me with my adventures with inkscape? Full disclosure, I don't know a **** thing about computers and this new iMac is running me through the ringer. Since I was able to do some very minimum work with the program, such as change pattern lines to RED and do some text work for childrens puzzles, I'm guessing that I hit the wrong button somewhere. I did all my work on an 8 1/2 x 11 layour and now when I try to work on a new piece, teh correct size paper outline comes up, but there is a 6 x6 box with red lines from corner to corner, and the program won't let me perform any of the work I would like to do. I'm sorry if this explanation as clear as mud, and I thank you all for any help that is given. Rick

Hi everyone, I know that there are some folks on the Village site who use inkscape, including Travis, who is preety much a master of the program. I am about as computer illiterate as legally possible, but I was able to limp by mostly with the text portion of the program. I was able to draw desk name signs, and I could change the sroke color, and join the letters together using the union commamd.....now, all that I could do is out to lunch. IS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCEING PROBLEMS WITH inkscape. I am guessing that I bobbed when I should have weaved and I upset the proverbial apple cart. Can someone explain to how to remove the program from my computer so I cn try to reinstall it. I am using a pretty new iMAC with SONOMA 14.1.2. Thank you for any help that is supplied, I'm trying to finish the last Christmas order. Rick

It's too late for Christmas, but there's a birthday coming up in early March. Thank you for sharing the pictures.....OUTSTANDING WORK. Rick

This is just a quick THANK YOU to you Don for helping me with my question about installing a font in inkscape. As its turns out, my MAC got indigestion as I was attempting to do the install, the darn thing is only 4 years old and prior to doing the latest APPLE upgrade, it worked great. The computer has been in the digital hospital since Tuesday and we have made 3 trips to the Danbury Mall since, an hour each way, and guess who isn't the happiest MAC user right now. We are headed there again today(Saturday), because the diagnosis is not good and I have to decide if I want to purchase another APPLE product, unfortunately, Ann Marie and I both use MACs and we have everything in the house tied in together.....we'll see.

Thank you Don, I'm going to try this font as soon as I can. I forgot to mention that I was using a MAC

Good morning to everyone, HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY to our Canadian friends and HAPPY COLUBUS DAY to all here in the USA-----I don't care if that offends anyone! Could someone please explain to a old guy who shouldn't be using a computer anyway, how to install fonts on Inkscape, I think tried every approach know to mankind, but NO LUCK. I'm trying to come up with a font that I can cut out of a project, but they have ruled out a stencil font, so I will be trying to find some kind of script font that I may be able to doctor up. Thank you and I hope you all can njoy this sunny DRY day Rick

Using remainig piecs of LED strip light
Hudson River Rick replied to Hudson River Rick's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Hi Ray, thanks for reading and responding to my post. I have done that and it works great, I guess I should have been more clear with my rquest, I have not had any luck finding USB cables that have a bare end on one side and the connector on the other. Our intention with this project is to make many of these light boxes and donate them to the Franciscan Friary where we attend Sunday Mass, and they can then sell them in the gift shop. I think I will start asking my friends to save me any old USB cables they were intending to toss out. You are correct about the RED & WHITE wires used for power. Best to you and thanks again. Rick -
Hi to all, I have posted this on the other 2 popular forums, sorry if you read it again. I found this really nice Steve Good Christmas item that we are considering making for our church's gift shop. I am wondering if anyone has any information on how to power pieces of remaining LED light strips? There are many different LED strips available on the internet, and they are all longer than what would be needed to make this beautiful box. If I could find a method that even I could do, to reuse the leftover pieces, that will help bring the price down, our intention is to donate these to the Friary to help rsiae some funds for them. The LED strips that I have are 5 volt and I know that I could use a USB connection to accomplish what I need to do, I am having trouble locating USB cables with the connctor on one end only, if I can find the cable I need, then I am capable of soldering the positive and negative wires to the strip. That should work. Allow me to give a BIG shout out to Steve, I contactd him and inquired as to how he would supply power to the LED strips, he was able to get right back to me and explain that he has never tried to do that, and he sent along some info on a youtube video and a contact page on Amazon. Thank you all for reading this topic, I hope I made sense to everyone. Rick
