  1. keep busy. Breakages are not fun but getting mad does not change anything. I try to look at those times as more reason to spend time in my shop. It doesn't get better than that Dick heppnerguy
  2. You have gone through a few blades and quite a bit of time with all that cutting of so many letters. Great job they all look great. Dick heppnerguy
  3. After a month away from my shop, I sometimes wonder if I can do anything right. You certainly spent your time well and came out of the shop with a lot of projects completed, and nicely done also. that should help you find a way back in there soon Dick heppnerguy
  4. you sure know how to make your frame joints. I do not have that much talent. The entire project looks awesome. Dick heppnerguy
  5. I really like how well you cut your projects. All are very well done. Thank you so much for posting them for all of us to admire also Dick heppnerguy
  6. I have 4 air brushes but almost never use them. I saw your post and watched the video. I bought one the next day. I know it is a cheap one but I was painting a fairly large item and there was no detail needed. It worked perfect and if it did not work for me,,, well $10 is not big thing. I did need to unscrew the metal part in order to raise it up a tad to get in aligned properly with the gun but after that, it worked perfectly and I did not need to clean the gun. Made me happy. 7. Glad to hear...
  8. I understand that only too well. One night when Sharon was in Oregon and I stayed home, I was listening to music on my tablet before I went to bed and after I went to bed and there was no one in the house with me, I layed in bed for a few minutes and belted out some songs. About three songs into my little bout, my Amazon Lexa by my bed suddenly said, " Nice tune" That was certainly weird. Dick heppnerguy
  9. for sure. I was thinking the same thing but did not write it. That reminds me.... several years ago I made some key chains with the individual names on them and used them on the outside of the Christmas presents as name tags. I am still very amazed that everyone still has them and uses them too. In fact this summer one of my grandsons told my his broke and wanted to know if I would make him a replacement. Now these do not even come close to the wood portraits, so I would almost bet he will have his wooden portrait until he passes as an old man Dick heppnerguy
  10. come to think about it, Paul.. I had the problem but with my finish. I sprayed a coat of clear finish on my project and then about an hour later I sprayed a second coat on it. I went back out into my shop to give it a final application and returned a couple of hours later and it was still tacky. Because our temperature is hovering just over 100 degrees here and it is so dry, the sprays usually dry almost before I put my spray can away. I returned to the house to watch TV and came out again in about an hour and a half and it was still tacky.. then it dawned on me that I had grabbed my can of spray glue instead of the finish spray. Now stop laughing at me and don't tell anyone how stupid I am. Dick
  11. Maybe it has something to do with how you glued on the pattern. If you spray glue the pattern and used mineral spirits to remove it, perhaps the mineral spirits did not get all the glue off and then the paint was effected by that. Hey, what do I think I am doing? Trying to tell you what you problem is would be like me telling a doctor how to diagnose a sick patient. Boy, that was a silly thing for me to do. Dick
  12. Excellent portrait. His parents will be loving it a lot. The grandson will probably be blown away and show it to all his little friends. He sure is a cute little guy Dick heppnerguy
  13. I have been scrolling for a number of years and i too the Ex 21 saw and an Ex 13 inch. I have run into problems occasionally while cutting 2 dimension patterns and thick wood but I just tried different blades and sometimes stumbled upon the answer to my problem and sometimes it was the blade and sometimes it was the character of the wood, then again sometimes it was me. Glad you have decided to join us. I too am 82 years young. Welcome from Southern Arizona. Hope you log on often Dick heppnerguy
  14. Well thank you so much. I also made a pattern and it came out pretty darn good but I used the one made for me here by grampa as I appreciated his making it for me and he knows a lot more about pattern making than do I. Dick heppnerguy
  15. If i know what I want from a pattern, I usually can make on in Inkscape. I also can do a fair job on wood portrait patterns but the hardest part for me is hair and beards. If someone asks me to do a custom plaque for them and tells me what they want, without me being able to see even a rough sketch of their idea I usually spend more time making and remaking the pattern because they always add something to what I do and i really do not enjoy the whole process and time needed to finally understand just exactly what they wanted in the first place. 16. I was just so pleased he was so thrilled about having it. That was so worth all my efforts Dick heppnerguy
  17. Thank you.. He was very pleased with it hung it up the day he received it
  18. thank you for your nice comment. It was such a cherished painting that I just thought it might be a nice addition as most people have no idea a wooden scroll sawed portrait could even be made. Dick heppnerguy
  19. Yes he was very happy with it as he cherishes the painting and thought the wooden plaque was a perfect addition to it. He hung it the day I gave it to him Dick heppnerguy

  23. I love the cartoon character cut from wood. I have also done a few and probably will do some more in the future. You do such a nice job with your projects and I love your finishing of them as well Dick heppnerguy
  24. See, I was the first to figure out why you have cut so many of them and continue with the task. Heck, you might already be eligible for the guiness book of world records. Dick heppnerguy
